great cd Feb 01, 2010 i love his music and so far have yet to be dissapointed with a cd of his.
Great CD and DVD combo Jan 30, 2010 Great music as always from Matisyahu wit ha great DVD inside of a concert with lots of extra bits.
Good music, Good philosophy Jan 17, 2010 The combination package of a DVD included with the CD adds the much needed dimension to who Matisyahu is and what he is all about. In addition, it shows great vies of Israel, which lends extra flavor to what he is singing and saying. Matisyahu was recently performing at a popular night club in our area. Instead of sitting in a crowded room hearing him perform, I chose to order the CD/DVD combination from Amazon. I'm glad that I did. It gave my wife and I a chance to soak up his spirit, song and down to earth reasoning in the quiet of our own home. We would never had had that opportunity as a result of the night club visit. Buy this combo. if you are interested in Matisyahu. No Place To Be (CD/DVD)
Time to to go somewhere new. Jan 01, 2010 Basically a Re-mix EP partnered with a full-length concert CD, Matisyahu's "No Place To Be" is best reviewed as a concert disc. And "Live In Israel" is one average performance. Matisyahu is a charismatic person, but he's a static performer. He does have a crack band, and they deliver on his songs. He just needs a little more animation (and this from a man who got some of the original attention to his shows because he was a Hasidic Jew who would stage dive in full regalia).
The songs on the EP are decent, but only two are new. He does well with Sting's "Message in a Bottle," and the brand new "Warrior" matches anything on Youth. Then there are re-presentations of two of his best songs, "Jerusalem" and "Chop 'Em Down." Add three remixes of "Youth," "Message In A Bottle" and an absolute wretched deconstruction of "Jerusalem," and you have the EP. After two studio and one live albums, this is spreading his so-far meager catalog a bit thin.
Not the best introduction to a performer whom I think is extraordinary when he's 100% on, "No Place To Be" is easily bypassed. If you want a concert Matisyahu, hit the Live At Stubbs, or get the studio albums "Youth" or the recent Light.
DVD worth buying for Sep 08, 2009 as others have noted, the CD isn't much. but the DVD is excellent. i was surprised at the sound quality. I played it through my laptop to my stereo, and it sounded outstanding, as good if not better than any CD! however, when i played it on my DVD player through the sound system, which is usually incredible, it only came through one speaker... so i dont know what happened. and the interviews and candid clips of the band were priceless and were woven perfectly through the live concert (plus there was one or two mini concerts as part of the extra clips).
