Pop Rocks Nov 17, 2008 After several listens to Sloan's "Never Hear the End of It," I've been trying to explain to other folks why they should give this recording a listen. But I'm not sure I'm up to the task.
I keep thinking "Pop Rocks" is an apt description as this CD is like a bag full of ear candy, bursting with different, intense flavors, all tied together by common elements, but not ever quite the same.
In other words, this is a great CD for some relaxed listening, the kind of music one does not have to take too seriously but can enjoy pretty much anywhere, anytime.
Personally, Sloan's best album Jul 01, 2008 I am a fan of Sloan, and have been for a long time now. I personally think that their first album "Smeared" was their best. Of course I liked most of their works that followed, but "Never Hear..." is just so beautifully written. I didn't think they'd ever come out with something as good as "Smeared," but obviously they proved me very wrong; their melodies are absolutely vivifying.
I really would recommend this album if you've been a long-time Sloan fan, and if you're one to easily fall prey to pure melody.
Finally, a worthy follow up to Twice Removed Jun 03, 2008 I did not buy this for a full 2 years after its release because after Pretty Together and Action Pact (good, but not great albums), I had given up on hearing the brilliance of Smeared and Twice Removed again. The frustrating part, or perhaps the fascinating part, is the inconsistency of Sloan. On the last album, the single and video was "The Rest of My Life". WTF. I even walked out of the 2006 concert at the Commodore in Vancouver because the sound was bad, and I was not hip to the new CD. This is a fantastic CD. I don't listen to every track so far, but taken as a double album there are great tracks on all four sides. After 14 years of waiting, it finally surpasses the early albums. I just wish they could figure out what it is when they are getting it right. If they could maintain their consistency, they might just break bigger, if it's not already happening.

Please, somebody help me. I can't stop listening to this album! Mar 26, 2008 I first heard Sloan when I was living in Toronto in the early nineties, and I was really into "Smeared" (especially "Underwhelmed"). But "Never Hear the End of it" is a hundred times more accomplished, mature, and magnificent. I literally can't stop listening to it, and every time I worry about over-exposure and growing tired of it, I get more and more pleasure from it. It has, in a very short span of time, acheived what a very short list of albums have done - it is now like comfort food. The Beatles, Roxy Music, XTC, a few others, and now Sloan. Pretty respectable company.

In agreement with most everybody here Nov 27, 2007 I got this CD in January, fell in love with it immediately, and told friends that, early as it was in the new year, there was no doubt this would make my personal Top 5 Best of 2007. Well, here we are at the end of 2007, and Never Hear the End Of It is still entrenched at the top of my list. Unlike many of these other reviewers, I was NOT a passionate Sloan fan before. Sure, I loved their many tremendous singles; who doesn't? But this album takes me to a whole new level of appreciation. I cannot remember the last time I actually tried to learn the words to an entire album!! The music, melodies and hooks... just fantastic. I LOVE this album. And, a year later, this is the CD I'm sending to my music-loving nieces and nephews for this year's Christmas gift. BTW- 30 songs may seem like a lot, but they are all, for the most part, SO good that I actually downloaded the 3 free tracks offered with the CD when I got it!
