Description:

Breaking singer Toni Braxton's heart is just not advisable. Whether she's writing about her own anguish or interpreting someone else's, Braxton has a way of cutting straight to the soul. It's why her signature hit, "Un-Break my Heart," was a smash, and why More Than a Woman is such a terrific album. She's angry, and she's skilled enough in R&B, pop, and soul to madly exorcise those demons. The soaring and sassy he-done-me-wrong lament "Lies, Lies, Lies"--its chorus powered by thickly layered vocals--is utterly irresistible. "Give It Back" similarly scolds a cad caught stepping out on our gal. Braxton also finds success in happiness: the lilting, Spanish-flavored "Me & My Boyfriend" is a joyful ode to being together, while the swooning, synth-juiced "Tell Me"--despite its soft, innocuous exterior--finds Braxton seducing a lover by checking off her attributes (hard body, wearing a thong) while offering a private dance. Braxton's husky voice continues to make hairs stand on end. Though she's not busting down any stylistic doors on More Than a Woman, loyalists will find plenty to praise. --Kim Hughes

5This album is HOT!!!!!!  Oct 23, 2009
I love this Album... All the songs are sultry and HOT!!!!
Toni puts her heart and soul into this. Her voice sounds great, the music is bumpin' and will have you moving and grooving. My favorite songs on the album is: Can we fall in love Again, Hit the Freeway, Tell me, and Rock Me Roll Me. You will definately not be disappointed!!

4More Than A Woman, For Sure...!  Dec 11, 2007
# ~~ 1 ~~ Let Me Show You The Way Out - Cute, decent vocal prowess. 4/5

# ~~ 2 ~~ Give It Back - Features Baby. It's a grower. She kinda "pouts" through it, with that whisper, whisper voice, but it's OK. 3.7/5

# ~~ 3 ~~ A Better Man - Hottest beat E-V-E-R. Producer laced it, and Toni's vocals are perfectly suited for this major Kiss-Off! Her best song by far!! Surely, She's also proud of this one..? 6.25/5

# ~~ 4 ~~ Hit The Freeway - A nice mid-tempo/upbeat number. Features the sexy, SEXY Loon, and a decent rap from Him. They have some good chemistry, surprisingly... 4.25/5

# ~~ 5 ~~ Lies, Lies, Lies - Great song. Toni drops the S-bomb at least 3x, while commanding all the control. A guitarist, riffs His way through this one, and it only enhances the experience. 4.9/5

# ~~ 6 ~~ Rock Me, Roll Me - I heard this one for the first time last year some time. Liked it the first time it hit My ears, and someone told Me I would. Can't wait to actually buy this one! 4.125/5

# ~~ 7 Selfish - OK, not that great. And not much to speak about. Worst track here. 3.3/5

# ~~ 8 ~~ Do You Remember When - Super pleasant, and mid-tempo. Heavenly, upper register notes, and just lovely, all-around. Love this joint! Sounds like Janet Jackson's "Nothin' Better Than", a Glenn Lewis Joint, or a Javier Colon Joint. "Beautiful U R" comes to mind! 5/5

# ~~ 9 ~~ Me & My Boyfriend - Not a bad version. Not the best (Jay and B, killed it!) 3.7/5

# ~~ 10 ~~ Tell Me - A great, love-drenched ballad. Nice, smooth vocals & sexy lyrics. Should have went down, as one of Her infamous classics. Ah well, as long as it's still good, doesn't matter all that much! 6/5

# ~~ 11 ~~ And I Love You - Another ballad. Simply amazing. Hip-Hop beat, Love-soaked, almost as much as Tell Me. Nice way to nearly close things off. 4.2/5

# ~~ 12 ~~ Always - Not much to say. It's slow, and I thought I liked it, but even Give Me Back in more entertaining...She just doesn't really say much that I wanna hear. One of the VERY FEW downers here... 3.5/5

Looks like this CD, is S-E-R-I-O-U-S-L-Y underrated! Many slept on this, while others didn't believe. Well, both are DEAD-WRONG.

5Let Me show you the Way  Jul 03, 2007
This is one of her finest pieces in years in my opinion the heavy hip hop sound in the introductory track just presents Toni in a fresh modern (She has been around for a while) sound and look. She's great. I still consider her my top ten favorites and she still brings her A game when others came and went, some stayed a while but couldn't keep the pace. Excellent.

3Not as bad as people make it out to be  Feb 15, 2007
A lot of people (including Toni herself) consider this TB's worst album. I'll admit that out of all of 6 albums (Not counting remix and hits albums), this one ranks at number 6 but it wasn't that bad. Her vocals were on point. Most of the lyrics were on point. More Than A Woman is not her best album but I think it is worth owning.

3...  Nov 30, 2006
The majority of these songs are relatively good ideas, but are not executed properly. While the songs are alright, they are not strong enough to stand on their own. Toni Braxton lacks ad-libbing where it is necessary to hold your attention. A song, no matter how good, is not interesting if it lasts four minutes with the same verse-chorus-verse structure without any alterations. Some of the production is out of place and the two tracks produced by Robert Smith, Brandy's ex-husband, sound way too similar, and they are not great to start with. It sounds so ridiculously Brandy, and that is just not for Toni. The best track on here is "And I Love You." It is produced by Babyface and it shows his flexibility/versitility. He is able to fit Toni's new sound while still having some of her old school melodies and harmonizing. One can only imagine how much better this album could've been if she worked more with Baby face...
