Old Guy. Feb 04, 2010 OMG! WTF! This is one of the most important recordings of the Sixties. It should ALWAYS be available to current and future generations. Records like this are essential...granted, Moby Grape never did it again, but many more famous groups of the day never did it at all and made millions. Roaring out of the gate with something this pure is rare and should be honored, not destroyed.

Absolutely Essential (and this is coming from a 19 year old audiophile and musician) Mar 04, 2009 NOTE: I would buy soon the mp3 album here on Amazon because I've noticed that itunes' mp3's of this album are being removed slowly. Matthew Katz I suspect.
If any rock critic, musician, or audiophile were to categorize and rank all of the american "psychedelic" groups/albums that emerged from the west coast in 1966-67, Moby Grape would most definitely trump all of the others. This band was the ultimate package of guitar virtuosos, harmonizers, song writers and commercial appeal. It's an incredible pity that they were so poorly mismanaged and forgotten. However, this album does live on and it is a classic. Their ability to harmonize and play 3 guitar harmony is stunning and it is all constructed tastefully.
SIDE NOTE: Their live work was even better, go to their remastered "Truly Fine Citizen" album and download the three live bonus tracks (they're from a performance at the Fillmore West in 1967). These live tracks showcase how they could harmonize their guitars and vocals all at the same time. Truly essential as well.Truly Fine Citizen
Even better was that they could all write. Their highlights include Omaha, 8:05, Hey Grandma, Changes, and Indifferences. And that's just a sample! If you're even just a casual music fan, this is absolutely essential to your library.
Here is my rank of 60's west coast psychedelic groups and I'm rating according to the overall musicianship of each member of these bands.
1. Moby Grape
2. Santana (yeah sure, they were at the tail end of the sixties but they were incredible)
3. Buffalo Springfield
4. Quicksilver Messenger Service
5. Grateful Dead
6. Jefferson Airplane

Ancient gem Jan 28, 2009 I discovered this band (and album) from Rolling Stones' 500 greatest albums list. I can't believe I had never heard of them. The songwriting, harmonizing, and instrumentation are incredible; it's such a shame they went sideways.
Anyhow, the album itself is in my top 10. I find myself singing these songs in my head all the time. Man they were great.
"What a difference a day has made...try some today."
Indeed.
Amazing! Sep 27, 2008 Triple guitars, great melodies, and great songs! Essential jem for anyone into psychedelic-acid rock! If you doubt this album on the first listen, you owe it to yourself to spend some more time with it. It has many interesting layers of sound. Although the vocal blends are kind of light and airy, the harmonies are solid. Great record!

I like this Aug 29, 2008 I like these songs from way back when. It is incredible that I can still listen to the original album form that I bought then. I'm sorry I have not heard what was available recently. I never learned to play and sing these songs, but I like the high level of musicianship which shines in the recorded versions like few other collections. It was a miracle that these musicians found each other when they were able to do things so much better than anyone else. I have some other Moby Grape CD which was not the same for me. I feel the songs on this one like something that is part of my life forever.
