Disco dancing steam shovels delight! Jul 02, 2001 We first rented this video from the local library and just had to have one for our home collection. It's hard to know who loves this video more, our three-year old son or his parents. The animated story of Mike and his steam shovel Mary Ann is as charming as the book, and the music is a wonderful addition - who could imagine a trio of power shovels dancing and singing to a disco beat, "No steam shovels wanted!" Aside from the fun, there are great lessons about loyalty, hard work, cooperation and coping with change. I know this will be a family favorite in our house for a long time.
My Kindergarten students loved it! Sep 14, 2000 I am a Kindergarten teacher, and this is one of the few videos that I show to my students. It teaches them about change, fair play, and "working together". I always freeze the tape right after Mike digs the cellar in a day. I say that "He did it, but theres a problem. Can you guess what it is?" Eventually, someone does guess that Mike can't get out. Year after year the kids love it. Years ago, I taught First Grade. They really loved it! They requested it to be shown at their end of the year party!

Even if it can't be done, do it anyway! Aug 07, 2000 That is the awesome theme song for this movie. And what a great message for kids! Our boys have grown up with this movie and our daughter even watched for several years. It has brought to life this classic tale and preserved the story and illustrations to perfection. Virginia Lee Burton would be proud. Buy it! Every little boy deserves a copy!

Its Wholesome, Its Catchy, And It Ain't Pokemon! Jun 06, 2000 It has these three things going for it and more!My 2 & 4 year old sons adore this video. I shared this book from my childhood from them and they asked for it a few times a day. Then we spotted the video at the library decided to purchase it when they couldn't bear to put it in the return drop box. The story has a good message and the art work was carefully preserved to do justice to Virginia Lee Burton's original illustrations. There are several catchy songs that children will love to sing along with. It is a wonderful video to share with your kids and enjoyable for parents too.

A real hit with the little ones! Sep 09, 1999 After I read the book over and over to my daughter, she found the video at a rental place. What a find! She loves the songs that are part of the story (I have heard her singing "no steam shovels wanted" dozens of times) and finally after spending more to rent the thing over and over than it would have cost to purchase it, I found it here. Buy it!
