Readable, just not understandable Mar 02, 2010 I want to be enlightened. I really do. I just don't understand the language. Cheryl Simone has late night discussions with Yogi Sadhguru. The ramblings go on for pages with quotes like "Another way to reach zero is to expand, expand, to infinitely expand. That is also zero. Zero and the infinite are the same." I have no idea what this means. Or, "I would always stick to the path of awareness and sadhana. If you naturally jump the line and shift from awareness to devotion, that is wonderful; however, but cannot be cultivated. Cultivated devotion is not devotion, just deception." Again, I have no idea what he is talking about. Most of the book is like this.
The book is very readable, just not easily understandable.
Ms. Simone has questions and the Yogi Sadhguru has answers. Ms.Simone has a very easy writing style and I understand the questions; I cannot even begin to understand the answers. Maybe it's just over my head.

Couldn't get past the "I" Feb 04, 2010 There was so much "I" in the Forwards and in the first 3 pages that there was no need to continue further. This book seems to be written on an emotional level. It's just not for me. Obviously others enjoyed it so as always, use your own intuition. For a higher bump try reading books by Paramahansa Yogananda or Barbara Martin. When a book does click be sure to put what you've learned into action. Otherwise you're just watching a good movie.

Feeling lost? This is a familiar soft glow that will guide you .. Jan 29, 2010 I resound with Cheryl, as if she were an alternate parallel spirit to mine. It feels like I have been searching my entire life to the answers that seem just out of reach. This reminds me of 'Autobiography of a Yogi'. This book breathes new life into that perennial classic. An analogy is 'Autobiography' was like a mouth-watering fancy cupcake that was sitting on a table out of my reach, 'Mystics' has put the cupcake in my hand and I have taken a bite, and I am filled with ecstasy. I have delved into everything esoteric imaginable (self-help, psychology, religion, hypnotism, astrology, tarot, shamanism, psychics, etc.), and still feeling somewhat lost, like I was given bread crumbs every now and then, but I still haven't found my way. I feel now like there is hope, since reading this. Sadhguru feels like an old friend, and while his life may seem beyond the laws of reality as we know it, I say to open your mind as far as it will go, give him a chance, and if you're ready, BE ready to receive a blessing. Be ready to take a journey - that if you're willing from the depth of your soul - to achieve all your answers, so it will be done. I am going on my first retreat in a month, I hope to add to this with the newfound experience. Sadhguru isn't looking for followers, to be revered, to be famous, he is simply the soft glow that will help you find your way in the darkness. Stay tuned ..

Can a book really change your life? Jan 13, 2010 It's hard to believe that something as common place as a book could really change one's life. Sure I've read many great books in my life from philosophy to art, from self-help to countless biographies. All of them are undeniably interesting, meaningful and insightful, but I must say they never really stick with me. Of course the reading is always enjoyable sometimes even stimulating but once it finished it's on to the next and two weeks later I could barely remember the title.
Midnights with the Mystic was totally different for me. There was an unusual sense of calm clarity that was speaking directly to me. Questions that have lingered in the back of my mind since I was a child were addressed with a such clarity that complex and overwhelming subjects like grief, death, my own divinity became profoundly simple and understandable. It was as if for the first time I had encountered a sense of pure, unfiltered, and untainted truth that had always been there but I just wasn't aware of it. Being a die hard skeptic I looked at the ideas presented from every differing angle I could imagine and everything kept coming back affirmative. Maybe this really is the Truth, I thought. Could it be that after all these years of education and personal seeking and growth that I've now stumbled upon the real thing - truth with a capital "T", and it doesn't elude me? Could it be that its not so far out that its beyond me and my comprehension? Can I "get" the Truth? I can joyfully answer "YES!" and the heaviness and scariness of uncertainty has been lifted and my life is profoundly illuminated and forever changed.

Beauitful Read Jan 09, 2010 I bumped into the book by accident, ordered it and couldn't put it down. A good portion of the book is question-answer with a highly spritual being. The insights in the book are profound and if you're receptive to the discussions can change or enhance your belief system based on where you are in your life journey. I highly recommend the book and it's teachings!
