beautiful holiday music from Andy's heart to ours Nov 22, 2009 This is a terrific CD with the songs from the 1965 holiday record album by Andy entitled Merry Christmas. Not to be confused with The Andy Williams Christmas Album, this album offers different holiday music; but of course knowing Andy it's all sublime and very nostalgic. The quality of the sound is excellent and I like the artwork.
"Sleigh Ride" starts things off with a joyful, highly energetic tune that is infectiously catchy as well. The music and the backup chorus could have been toned down just a little bit, bit it's still a fine number and Andy never lets go of a single superfluous note! I'm impressed. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," a number first performed by Judy Garland in the MGM movie "Meet Me in Saint Louis," gets the royal treatment from Andy and I'm sure Judy would have loved Andy's rendition of this timeless song! Andy delivers "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" straight from the heart and his genuine emotion shows through when you hear him sing this number. Andy's excellent diction enhances his performance, too; and that's grand.
"Winter Wonderland" is another high energy number with excellent harmonizing by a backup chorus; and it all holds its own very well. "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" features Andy right there in the spotlight--and that's precisely where he belongs! I also really like "Some Children See Him;" this is a very poignant ballad.
"Do You Hear What I Hear" is a gorgeous holiday standard that Andy aces as effortlessly as if it were mere breathing. Of course, we know it really wasn't all that easy; Andy's talent carries him through. "Silver Bells" is absolutely wonderful; and the album ends with two ballads, "Mary's Little Boy Child" and "The Bells of Saint Mary's." Andy delivers these songs with panache and it just may leave you wanting more!
We are all so much better off for Andy Williams' having shared his talent with us; and there's no doubt that any holiday album by Andy will be nothing short of brilliant! This is a fine CD to add to your holiday collection; and fans of Andy Williams would do well to add this to their collections.
My Favorite Andy Williams Christmas Album Oct 11, 2009 This christmas album, from 1965, is my favorite ANDY WILLIAMS christmas album. I like the 'red' one, THE ANDY WILLAIMS CHRISTMAS ALBUM, too, but this 'green' one, MERRY CHRISTMAS, has a little more christmas spark in it for me which doesn't really make sense with how christmasy the 'red' one is (seriously, though, you should get both since they are christmas classics in the easy listening/crooner style and as at least one other reviewer mentioned, both albums flow nicely from one to the other so that if you like one, you'll probably like the other as their styles are very similar).
A great orchestra and chorus back ANDY WILLIAMS on the songs here making great to even classic versions of songs such as WINTER WONDERLAND (one of my favorite versions ever), LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW LET IT SNOW (another one of my favorite versions ever), HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, SLEIGHRIDE, and a fabulous new song, CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY, that I'm surprised didn't become a christmas standard as ANDY's actual christmas standard came to be just that (from the 1963 red album, IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR). CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY is a very upbeat and fun song that deals out the 'christmas mood' as much as any christmas standard.
Another song to mention is MARY'S BOY CHILD that is very beautiful and moving. Also, MY FAVORITE THINGS is done ezxcellent here.
If you like the old 'crooner' christmas music of yesteryear (1950's - 1960's) and probably that if you like the christmas albums of JOHNNY MATHIS and JACK JONES, this is a definite must have, at least as far as I'm concerned.

A classic Christmas Album Jan 22, 2009 For anyone who wants traditional great Christmas CD, this is worth putting into your collection. Andy Williams voice helps set a very 'christmasy' mood around the home. This is an album that I grew up with as my mom played this album every Christmas season. Of course, the Andy Williams Christmas Special was also looked forward to each year. (Remember the bear that would knock on the door and eat all of the cookies?)
The songs are not all Christmas carols (for example 'A Few of My Favorite Things' from The Sound of Music), but still seem to be done in a way that sets a great holiday tone. I was really surprised that my kids liked the CD also and would request that I played it whenever we were driving during the Christmas season. I plan on picking up another one of Andy Williams Christmas CDs for next year (I think I saw that he has four altogether.)

Great! Jan 12, 2009 What can be said? It's Andy Williams! He is fabulous any time. This CD is not quite as good as the Red one, but it is great anyway! I highly recommend everyone add this to their Christmas collection and get the Andy Williams red Christmas Album! You gotta have that one!!!

Just a Wonderful Christmas Musical Experience! Oct 30, 2008 I originally purchased this many years ago on tape and have recently upgraded to CD because it is one of my all-time favorites, sung by one of my favorite artists. I had the opportunity to see Andy live this past Holiday (2007) and his voice hasn't suffered with age at all. Many of these songs were performed that night to thunderous ovations.
Although there isn't a bad selection here, some of my personal favorites included are: "Some Children See Him", "Mary's Boy Child, "Silver Bells", & "The Bells of St. Mary's".
To me and my family it just wouldn't be Christmas without listening to an Andy Williams Christmas album. Highly recommended!
