Fun, tuneful British musical Nov 19, 2009 One of the least pretentious and most enjoyable musicals. with some catchy tunes and original lyrics.
The initial London run was 1646 performances.
The 1984 revival ran for 8 years. - this was not an accident.
Let your hair down and enjoy!!!
Doing the Lambeth Walk Sep 21, 2005 Six months ago, I worked as stage crew for this musical. I loved the songs so much I went on a mission to find the soundtrack..this proved to a difficult task in the land of Aus, so I was thrilled when I found it here... after anxiously awaiting my package, it was worth every second.. This is a musical to put on when you're happy, sad, angry, because, let's face it, it's just going to make you happy!! Who can resist the lyrics "take it on the chin, put on a little grin and smile.." Even if you are not familiar with the musical, this cast recording is high quality and highly enjoyable!
A Wonderful Musical Apr 07, 2005 My theatre group is performing this musical for the 2006 season. I bought the CD to get a little more of an idea about what the original musical was like and fell in love with it. I think it is a fabulous CD and would recommend it to anyone who loves classic music theatre. The only downside I found was the overly used vibrato, which overpowered some pieces. However, I loved tunes such as the classic "Lambeth Walk" and the borderline manic "Thinking of No One But Me". I only wish I could have seen this show while it was on Broadway!

One of the Happiest Plays I've Ever Seen Oct 10, 2004 I saw this back in 1986 when it came to New York, three times! I fell in love with the music, and found the orchestration to be superb! The story has been told before in other movies and plays, but that was not the point. It was just an evening of toe-tapping, foot-stomping fun. You won't be able to get the tunes out of your head. Ironically, because of where I was sitting at each performance (on the aisle), I got to shake hands with one of the performers when they danced into the audience while performing "The Lambeth Walk"!
I've been trying to find a revival anywhere, and I've heard it may be performed back in London. If so, my wife and I are on the first thing smokin' across the pond! :-)

Nothing to Write Home About. Sep 12, 2004 I remembered hearing the title song a few times, and liked it, so I naturally bought this album. The material is second rate. The story of a blue collar man who inherents a large fortune, while maintaining a romance. This could provide an enjoyable evening at the theater, but it does smell a little like the earlier "Half a Sixpence". There are the proverbial "nice tunes", but nothing spectacular. Even though the album was produced by Thomas Z. Shepard, protege to Goddard Lieberson, the sound is a little bit murky. The instruments seem a bit loud, and the actors usually have a poor vibrato to speak. Of course, it is at a reasonable price, so it will not put you out a fortune, and it is better than most British imports today (you know who you are). All in all, it is a matter of preference, so you may enjoy it.
