 Not Her Best - But An Impressive Debut Feb 28, 2010
Take a trip back in time when Mariah Carey wasn't hated by many, had the best voice in popular music and had no personality. When "Mariah Carey" was released it was very hyped and became a huge hit - it deserved it too. Everyone was fasinated by her whistle register and her amazing perfomance on The Grammys.
The good side to "Mariah Carey" is that it has killer singles. "Vision of Love" is still one of her best and signature hits. Her vocals sound great and the whistling is mindblowing. The only song that tops that vocally is "Emotions" from her next album. "I Don't Want To Cry" was another #1 hit. A great and almost forgoten hit. "Someday" is the best song that wasn't a ballad on the album. The chorus is one of her best and addicting. The last single is "Love Takes Time" is also one of my favorites. (Second best on the album in my opinion.) It is the perfect way to end the album. An overlooked gem on the album is "Vanishing". It is one of Mariah's favorites too.
The bad side to "Mariah Carey" is that most of the filler isn't very good. It doesn't rank up with the singles and is forgetable. Another complaint is that Mariah shows no personality. She was just who Tommy Mottola wanted her to be on the album.
In conclusion, this was a great debut by icon Mariah Carey. She grew better as the years went by but this wasn't a bad place to start. Her voice just sounds effertless. If you are a Mariah fan make sure to pick this up but if you are just getting started buy "Butterfly" or "#1s".

WOW this is her first studio album, her first album ever, lol, this album has great songs such as my favorite Love takes time, vision of lvoe, I dont wanna cry, all in your mind, Someday, this is an album u have to get first before all of the rest of them, this is the begging of mariah carey, an album u must own, listen to it, u will love it.. love you mariah.

This CD is Mariah Carey debut CD. On this CD she has a commanding voice, an uncanny ear for music. Her opening track "Vision of Love" to the sweet, last-dance ballad "Love Takes Time," Carey's debut was one of biggest-selling records of the '90s. This CD is pure perfection. One of the greatest debut CDs ever.

Say what you want about Mariah Carey but there is no denying that her voice is unmatched and the legacy she left with this album is still to be seen in music History. Yes im a big fan but I know talent and when I first heard this CD I could not believe the voice this woman had. Whitney Houston can sing her A** off and is still one of the best vocalist but Mariah has something special, Her voice could go from as low as a whisper and in the drop of a dime just soar to the heavens.
This Cd is great from track 1 to 11. Songs like Vision Of Love, Love takes Time, Someday show what classic Mariah was all about and why she became as big as she did back in 1990.
Vanishing, I don't Wanna Cry, and All In your Mind are great tracks and show off her range amazingly and In my opinion are some of Mariah's best recorded tracks which 2 of them had potential to be singles and become classics.
Prisoner and you Need Me are great upbeat songs that show a sassy, Rapping Mariah
and still while keeping it simple she paralyzes you with those Melisma runs.
There's Got to be a Way is one of those underrated Mariah songs, It has A sincere message about Getting together and making a change for the world.
I kept this review short but I end it saying that this album is not only timeless but also shows the birth of one of the best Pop vocalist since Whitney Houston.
