Venegas at her best Oct 23, 2009 "Julieta Venegas MTV Unplugged" is a great CD and I recommend it without reservation. I have "Si" and "Limon y Sal," which I also like very much. I was hesitant to purchase "Unplugged" because of overlap with these other CD's, and because I'm not generally a fan of live recordings. However, "Unplugged" has proven to be one of my best CD purchases in quite a long time. Venegas has a beautiful voice and a really fresh, smart sound that comes out in "Unplugged" even better than some studio produced music. This is especially evident on songs like "Limon y Sal," "El Presente," and "Me Voy." Her duet with Marisa Monte singing "Ilusion" is extraordinary. My Spanish is quite limited, but I still enjoy Venegas's music immensely. If her CD's came with English translations of the lyrics, she would triple her sales in the US. It is a mystery why the producers don't do this, at least on-line. However, after Google searching, I was able to find quality translations for about half of the songs on this CD.
A MUST HAVE BLU RAY !!!!! Oct 06, 2009 IF YOU LIKE JULIETA YOU NEDD TO HAVE THIS.
IN SPITE OF THE UNPLUGGED VERSION, MOST OF THE SONGS SOUND DIFFERENT BUT NICE.
QUALITY IS 1080 VERY SHARP AND SOUND IS AMAZING.THE CHORUS IS JUST RIGHT . I WOULD HAVE LOVED A FEW MORE SONGS SO LET'S HOPE SHE HAD A NEW CONCERT/VIDEO DVD OR BLU-RAY SOON
I KNOW SHE IS RESTING BUT SHE SHOULD BE ON TOUR AGAIN SPECIALLY IN THE EAST/SOUTH COAST
Beautiful Oct 01, 2009 This is why bluray is so great. The audio is just amazing. "Ilusion", sang together with brazilian super star Marisa Monte, is from now on my bluray demo song. This live album is Julieta at her best, timid but powerful and emotional at the same time. My only complaint is that it lasts only 1 hour. I wish they had included more songs. But maybe that will come on a second one! Five stars.
Absolute perfection Sep 29, 2009 I was not a real big fan of Julieta Vegas when i bought this, but after viewing this blu-ray I'm a big fan. The video quality is superb. The stage has beautiful colors and the illumination makes for some very interesting shadow details. The soft sound of Julieta's voice is immersing, it sounds so supple yet so sharp that it's beautiful. There is a great variety of sounds here, from chelos to mandolins, pianos, harmonicas and tons of instruments that make for a beautiful sound stage. Buy this Blu-Ray, you will not be disapointed.
So good, you won't think it's live! Mar 24, 2009 julieta, god bless you!!! i've been listening to this album for the past year and it hasn't gotten old yet (or ever). For all the haters out there, while i am a big fan of aqui and bueninvento, i'm so happy she went pop, because i don't know what i'd do without her. I sing along to her songs everyday and her songs have the ability to pacify babies! I loved the post-modern pop sounds of Si and simple (neo)folkish ways of limon y Sal. BUT the hallmark of her talent is the ability to create unique yet catchy melodies coupled by meaningful yet simple lyrics.
Whereas the last two albums possessed true understatement and restrain, this unplugged really brought IT in the instrumentation. In the world of pop, It's definitely inventive(the use of tuba, musical saw, vibraphone, string, banjo), but always precise and never indulgent, so the results always come off comforting and never forced. Julieta's voice is always in command, and it showcases versatility. The musical guests are super well selected.
Her new songs show a more introspective Julieta, but also perhaps a more political one. El presente is about loving and being in the present moment, even though the world is on the brink of destruction. Algun Dia is about the promise of self-improvement and realization. Ilusion, julieta's best ballad perhaps, is the mourning of the loss of ilusions through life. And mira la vida is an ode to feminine power and a tribute to pregnant women. These songs has taken a more worldly outlook than her usual intimate, relationship-based songs.
Julieta's sound continues treading forward into new ground: norteno-ska, polka-banda, tribal drums. While never abandoning her songwriting and melodies. I've never enjoyed a julieta album as much as this one, but perhaps it's because i'm getting a little bit of everything here. Still, I can't wait for what she's doing next.
