Description:

Lonestar, a self-contained country band in the tradition of Alabama and Little Texas, enlisted Los Angeles transplant Dann Huff to produce Lonely Grill, their third effort. Huff has helped them craft a record that fits the modern country format without descending into terminal slickness. Though some of the material is formulaic--"Amazed" (power ballad), "What About Now" (country Springsteen)--it is quality formula and the boys sing it like they mean it. Huff manages to put some new twists on the country-rock arrangements while keeping them more country than rock. Lonestar wanted this CD to reflect the energy of their live shows, and though some of the material might work better live (the hip-hop meets Hee Haw "Saturday Night"), the CD benefits from the relatively stripped-down sound. Richie McDonald has a voice on a par with many of Nashville's solo artists. When handed cleverly rhymed material like "Don't Let's Talk About Lisa" (which allows talkin' about "Hanson or Marilyn Manson," but not about "she whose name must not be spoken"), he proves up to the occasion. To paraphrase Merle, Lonely Grill "ain't art but it ain't bad." --Michael Ross

4This IS the best Lonestar CD  Jun 11, 2007
I am too much of a fan of Lonestar in the past as their songs have become super commerical, cheesy, annoying, and lack any depth, which makes the lead singer sound whiny....
That being said...this is a great CD. It has fast songs like "Don't lets talk about Lisa" which is pretty good. But I prefer the slow songs.
"Amazed" was obviously a huge hit, and rightfully so.
"Tell her" and "I gotta find you" are great songs that make me wonder why they stopped making good music like this. "I gotta find you" is my personal fave on the whole CD.
Lonely Grill- the title track is a good song too, with a beautiful guitar sound.

3there first CD the start of a great band  Jan 12, 2007
Even though this one is not as good as the other ones I think they were feeling everything out on this one, it still is a good CD

5The Best Lonestar CD   Nov 12, 2005
I love this CD. The best song on it is Smile. It just speaks to you. Also Every song on the cd is listenable and gets you thinking. With wonderfully written lyrics and vocals. The sound of Lonestar will always be attributed to this CD. It brought them to the big time. Amazed is a great song as well, but I do believe it's one of the great songs on this cd as well as Everythings Changed and Smile.

1I don't dis-like country anymore  Dec 07, 2004
I hate it with an all-time passion. I only put this cd on because I saw some good reviews and I was trying to figure out why used titles started at a mere 50 cents. The best thing I can tell you is to save that money and get yourself a candy bar or a cup of coffee. You couldn't pay me to take this garbage. Now before you judge me, I have listened to the songs and I'm not just writing this out of my red neck hatred, because I don't even think a true red neck would go this low. This Album is CHEESE, over produced, sappy, and is vomit inducing. One day I do hope that country music can get out of the rut they are in and just become bad again, until then keep your barf bag handy.

5"Amazing" song  Apr 06, 2004
The song "Amazed" is such a great song that even if the rest of the CD can't possibly achieve its greatness it is still worth buying this album.
