Album of the Decade Feb 15, 2010 Everything has already been said here, but I just wanted to add my voice.
This might not be THE best rock album of the 1970's, but if not then it's dam close!
If you already have it, put it on. If not, buy it NOW.
Cheers!

One of the ten great rock albums of all time! Jan 18, 2010 When I first purchased this in 1980, punk and new wave rock had a bad reputation with the Sex Pistols and other ranting pogo-dancing head bangers. This album gave it credibility because it was so eclectic and creative. They also were one of the greatest rock bands in the world during that time..if not the best. Every cut is done with urgency...every cut is so different. Very cimematic in scope. The production especially is superb..something usually not expected from a punkesque band. How can you go wrong with titles like "Rudy Can't Fail, Lost In The Supermarket, Hateful, Spanish Bombs, The Right Profile (a song about doomed actor Montgomery Clift) Brand New Cadillac etc. This band was bursting at the seams with creativity. It's unfortunate that most people didn't even bother because they were so different in scope. When I played this album to my friends they all thought I'd joined a skinhead group, and really didn't give it a chance. If it didn't sound like The Eagles, Steely Dan or The Beatles they dismissed it as fluff. That's how superficial most listeners are. When leader Joe Strummer died in 2002 at age 50 of a heart attack, most people hardly knew about it or cared. Nobody mentioned it on the news or in the papers. Well, over 30 years after the release of London Calling, I've come to the conclusion that THIS IS ONE OF THE 10 BEST ROCK ALBUMS IN HISTORY. I still get all revved up when I hear it. If you love rock and roll...this one is an all-time gem. A ROCK MASTERPIECE! Time has proven that!
Just...wow Dec 08, 2009 If you're interested enough to have looked up this album on Amazon, then you are the kind of person that MUST own this record.
I used to think this was a great album that kind of ran out of steam towards the end.
I was wrong. The is a flat-out masterpiece that doesn't have a weak SECOND, let alone song.
The invention is astonishing. This is not a punk album; they had evolved way beyond that.
This is simply one of the greatest albums of popular music that will ever be recorded.
As good as it will ever get. Jun 21, 2009 Five stars are not enough. The apogee of rock. Masterful playing, writing and singing. Brilliant production. After 30 years it remains unsurpassed. If you don't have it, then buy it.
