Solid modern rock album, but nothing you haven't heard before Sep 09, 2009 I didn't know much about Pop Evil when I ran across their 2008 debut Lipstick on the Mirror in a clearance bin, only that they were opening for this year's big Judas Priest/Whitesnake tour. That was enough to convince me to chance a couple of bucks on the CD.
My first thought after hearing Lipstick on the Mirror was "these guys are opening for Priest?" A support spot on a Nickelback/Daughtry bill makes sense, but Pop Evil's straightforward modern rock sound couldn't possibly have less in common with bands like Judas Priest and Whitesnake. Don't get me wrong, Pop Evil is a totally hard rocking band, and they have some really catchy songs, and I'm sure they're an absolute blast live. They're just not all that original. If you have at least one album by Nickelback, Daughtry, Hoobastank, Hinder, Staind etc. you're not going to get anything new out of Pop Evil's brand of Mountain Dew commercial nu-rock.
If you're a big fan of what gets played on mainstream rock radio these days - and of you are, more power to you, I'm not knocking it - then you'll probably love Lipstick on the Mirror. It's an album that just about any fan of Nickelback, Daughtry, Hoobastank and the like should really dig. If you're looking for something that stands apart from the pack, Pop Evil is not going to be it.
Awesome For An Unknown Band Aug 06, 2009 I am going to the Judas Priest/Whitesnake show in Phoenix AZ on 08/07/09. This is the opening act. I listened to the samples and cannot wait to hear them live. I am picking up the CD on my way home tonight. Nice mix of rockers and mellow songs.
Opening for Judas Priest at OC Fair Aug 05, 2009 Just now listened to the samples and they sound pretty good but this is the first that I've ever heard of them and they are the opening band for Whitesnake and Judas Priest at the Orange County Fair on 8/5/09 so the followup CD's should be a bit better because just in my opinion they are a bit too popish sounding for my likes and need to get a harder edge, there's too much soft stuff on this debut. Being on this tour should help them with further endeavors.
great first CD Aug 02, 2009 My favorites are 100 in A 55 and Another Romeo and Juliet! I am greatful for Octane playing thier music. I saw this band in Macon, IL two years ago. They are friendly, sexy, hot, and deserve this success.
