Description:

This disc was made with two purposes--to give an overview of the emerging Latin influence in the Top 40, and to get people dancing. The one problem is that many tracks have been remixed with the congas, Latinized drum machine, and handclaps up front, knocking out lots of the originals' character. Yet the production on a song that we've heard too much of, like Ricky Martin's "Livin' la Vida Loca," is an improvement over the radio mix. MDO, a millennial Menudo redux, upholds Menudo alumnus Martin's tradition competently with "Groove with Me Tonight"--it's certainly better than anything to come out of the Backstreet Boys or N Sync camps. Shakira was subjected to the remixing treatment once before on the album Remixes, but her strong songwriting and vocals saved the day, as they do here on "Ciega Sordomuda." It's obvious why so many people are betting she'll be a huge crossover star. Jennifer Delgado's "Que Tu Tienes" is perfectly mixed for dance radio, but you won't be hearing it on your station soon--it's in Spanish. Elvis Crespo's "Suavamente" made the airwaves big-time last year after he cut a Spanglish version, which is another highlight here. "Suavamente" is twice as catchy as "Livin' la Vida Loca" and makes better use of Latin beats and instrumentation. In a just world, Elvis would be mopping the floor with Ricky. --John Sanchez

4Great introduction to Latin music for the novice  Jan 09, 2000
This is a great cd to get a taste of the current latin scene and some of its biggest stars. It has some excellent versions of more notable songs, such as Suavemente by Elvis Crespo. This cd, along with the soundtrack from "Dance with Me" will give Americans a true passion for latin!

5This CD is muy caliente!!  Aug 23, 1999
This CD is great if you are just starting a latin collection or just trying to add to it!! I am not a big fan of most remix CDs, but this one is hot, hot, hot!! It definitely gets you movin'!!!

4Worth the money!  Aug 13, 1999
This CD has you moving from the beginning. Then it mellows you out at the end with the Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez Duo. One of the best remix albums I've bought. The only song missing is Bailamos by Enrique Iglesias. That song would have made this CD earn a 5 star rating from me!!

3There's a better one out.  Aug 11, 1999
Ricky martin drives this one (yawn) and the mixes are just OK but if you want a Real HOT latin mix that just came out, get "Club Caliente" on EMI - it's even got an unreleased Selena dance track on it. And it was approved by the #1 Latin Music Magazine - Latin Beat magazine.
