Description:

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his thirtieth birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years -- except Biff, the Messiah's best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in the divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work "reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams" (Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshuafrom his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more -- except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdala -- and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

5crazy and insain, but acurate  Nov 12, 2009
this book is very interesting how it puts together some of the gosples and bible storys and still manages to put in some amazingly silly ideas about jesus's life, and tie it together in the end.
this is a REALY good book.

5Funny and clever  Nov 01, 2009
I loved this book. So funny and clever. I bought a second one as a gift.

5Funny as all get out!  Oct 26, 2009
This book is not for the easily offended...and one has to remember it is fiction, not based on some secret scroll that Chris Moore found.

Beyond that, Chris takes us on a theoretical ride of how Christ's life could have been and how he responded to various situations that formed his human mind set.

I really do not want to give much away, so I will leave it as this. If you can stomache the DiVinci Code and not let if upset your faith (because you know it is fiction!!!!), then you will be ok with this. It is brilliantly written, smart, funny and complentative. It will lead you to go "Huh" at some points and laugh at others. All in all, a nice break from all the heavy reading I have been doing.

5If you read no other Christoperh Moore, Read This!  Oct 12, 2009
The first of Christopher Moore's books which I read, this book started me reading everything of his I could find. Christopher Moore is Christopher Buckley with a bit more whimsy and much more concern about the everyday goings on of people and less concern with global plots and politics. In this book in particular Mr. Moore delivers an excessively human Christ. We get a humorous view of the early years of Jesus life with his best friend and 13th disciple "Biff". While some who see any questioning of their beliefs as evil, will be offended by much of what is included in this work, I found Mr. Moore's approach to this thorny topic to be both reverant and irreverant at the same time. It is clearly a work of fiction and meant to be a bit of a farce, but this surface layer covers up a very thoughtful look at what it must be like to be the son of god, on Earth among all of us sinners.

As a Roman Catholic with an open mind I found this book to be thoughtful and hilarious. The balance between introspection and comedy that I found in Lamb was never quite reached in any of the other Moore books that I have read to date. The rest all seem to fall to the side of the ridiculous. They are funny but not nearly as thought provoking. So as the title says, If you can only read one, this is the one I recommend.

5Made Christopher Moore reader out of me!  Oct 12, 2009
This book is phenomenal! Although it is a fiction piece, it really made we think and re-explore the bible... Not once did I feel that Christianity (or Jeudaism) was being painted in a negative light, or being mocked in any way. It is so very interesting. This book "made a Christopher Moore believer out of me". I am excited to read through all his novels, which include some vampire stuff! Two BIG thumbs up on this one!
