Fine soundtrack music Aug 20, 2008 Phil Coulter's "Lake of Shadows" is a collection of easy-listening Celtic-y piano pieces that are simply and beautifully evocative. Coulter relies on short repeated motifs that start simply and eventually expand as pipes, bass and synthetic instruments are added. To my ear, this is precisely the kind of slow reflective music that are common in soundtracks for misty dramas about Ireland. Coulte also throws in renditions of well-known musical themes, such as "For Those In Peril On The Sea" and "The Flight Of The Earls". Fans of "Enya" will find his style familiar (as perhaps Coulter fans found of Enya).
Sweet and very nice, but probably won't find a place on my iPod.
Haunting Jun 17, 2008 Having family from County Donegal in County Ulster, Ireland, and loving Phil Coulter, there could be no better album for me than this one. They grew up just a short walk from where the flight of the Earls took place. The haunting stories behind the lyrics and the way the melodies remind me of that beautiful, though forbidding lake. I will treasure this album always. It is one of the very best to help me remember my ancestors home.
THE BEST Apr 17, 2008 This is my most favorite album. Usually, on an album there are at least a couple of songs that I don't care for, but every track of Lake of the Shadows is fantastic.
Glad it's now available on MP3 Feb 06, 2008 I bought this from another online source a couple of years ago, but it was in WMA format with the dreaded digital rights management. Changed computers. Couldn't transfer the license thanks to the "improvements" in Windows Media Player.
This is a wonderful album, and was well worth buying all over again to get a high quality copy free of DRM. I echo all of the other glowing reviews; this is my favorite album.

A beautiful CD that grows on you Aug 22, 2007 First time through this CD, I wasn't terribly fond of some of the selections. But after three listens, it has become another one of my Coulter favorites.
If they played music like this on the radio, I might consider returning to listening to commercial radio.
