Kim's worst CD! May 14, 2009 I only liked 1 or 2 songs off the whole CD; the CD is just weak!
La Bella Mafia - 3.5 stars Jul 05, 2008 I'd always liked the persona of Lil Kim and enjoyed her big hits from her debut cd but had never purchased one of her albums till this one. When she debuted I compared her lyrics and "act" to great female rappers of the past and sadly, wrote Lil Kim off because I thought that her lack of clothing, excessive profanity and lack of substantive lyrics set the female rap game back to when females weren't respected in the genre.
Of Kim's releases, I bought this album first because I really loved THE JUMP OFF - it was a great choice for a lead off single with its high energy beats and fun lyrics. My other favorite tracks are:
DOIN IT WAY BIG - I like her flow and the beats, it's another homage to Biggie but I like it
CAN'T F*$@ WITH THE QUEEN BEE - at first I couldn't believe that she sampled Deniece Williams but then I really started to like the track
HEAVENLY FATHER - features strong lyrics venting her frustration about the destruction of her "family" and her place in the music industry
CAME BACK FOR YOU - love the sample used and the strong lyrics
THUG LOVE - an ok track where Kim switches up her style to a quicker pace to match Twista's style
SHAKE YA BUM BUM - I really like the beats and the lyrical interplay between Kim & Lil Shanice
MAGIC STIK - a big hit that was overplayed on the radio at the time but it was good to hear it again, Kim & 50 sound great together
Overall I think it's great that Kim has been able to sustain a career in this business when initally people wished for her failure thinking that she'd be nothing without Biggie. Sometimes I wish she'd rap about more relevant topics but like other artists who find a certain niche and prefer to stay in their lane she prefers to rap about her sexual prowess & designer clothes.
Since I haven't listened to her other albums in their entirety it wouldn't be fair of me to compare them but I will say that coming from someone who hasn't paid attention to rap for a while, I really liked more tracks than I disliked.
The JUMP OFF! 3 1/2 stars Mar 09, 2008 Lil' Kim is admired among the hip hop community because she was one of the first successful female artists in the rap world. Not just that, though. Her lyrics pushed the envelope because of the sexual openness within them. Also, she is the former girlfriend of a man described as one of the greatest rappers of all time, Biggie. Women and men alike love Lil' Kim because of her realness. "La Bella Mafia" is definitely a solid album because of the infectious beats, decent hooks, good lyrics, and, of course, sexual explicitness.
"The Jump Off" and "Magic Stick" were the tracks which were released to radio. Both of these songs are solid, but "Magic Stick" is more creative because of the innovative chorus and production. Kim and 50 Cent go back and forth bragging on their sexual performances and stamina; it is quite interesting. "The Jump Off" did nothing for me at first, but it's a good song now that I've heard it many more times. The interludes on this album are pretty funny, too. Random people are calling into Lil' Kim's radio station saying some crazy things even Kim has to laugh at. "Can't F*** With Queen Bee" is another standout track. I loved the Deneice Williams "Free" sample. Twista lends his talent to "Thug Luv" and he and Kim give listeners a performance to remember. Their delivery was grand and the beat is also worth mentioning.
I would recommend this album to rap and hip hop fans. Lil' Kim is so nice on the mic. If you enjoyed "Hard Core", "Notorious KIM" and "The Naked Truth", there is no reason you shouldn't enjoy this album as well.

4 1/2 mics?? Are they crazy??? Jan 14, 2008 the source gave this album 4 1/2 mics. this album was so bad and pointless that i had to force myself to go past track 5. her first album was real good, but they get worse and worse after that. every song i heard ice this, rim this, and cristile this, thats so laaaaaame. while she was working on her new "barbie doll" looks she should have been working on her album. Biggie is in heaven with his head down...
