5Third Time's The Charm  Jul 22, 2009
In 2008, California rapper The Game released his third album, "L.A.X." While I was expecting a decent effort, I was surprised to get a masterpiece.
Yes, masterpiece. The Game elevated his abilities so much with this record in regards to production and lyrical ability.
This growth can be heard on the original "Never Can Say Goodbye," where Game raps from the perspective of the late and greats 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G. and Easy E. Some call it Game's ultimate attempt to name drop other rappers, but I personally think it's one of the most creative songs in hip-hop, period. Other standout songs lyrically include "L.A.X. Files" and "House of Pain."
While Game's creativity is evident and there's less Dr. Dre name calling, guest appearances are hit and miss.
Collaborations with Ice Cube, Common, Chrisette Michele, Lil' Wayne and Travis Barker seem to work, others are misses. "Ya Heard" with Ludacris isn't a classic, the songs with Ne-Yo are a little out of place, and I personally don't feel the collaboration with NaS. I think had that song featured anyone else I would have liked it better, but after Nas' "Untitled" album, I'm tired of his content anymore. The weirdest collaboration or feature is DMX on the intro and outro. Those are way out of place and should be on an X record.
While some songs are better than others, there really isn't a bad track on the album. This album is easily listenable from beginning to end, without skipping a track. Game really stepped up with "L.A.X." and I'll be eager to see what he does with his next record.

pretty dope cd you can hear it from track to track wihout skipping mostly every song is good on this especially "angel" with common.

4Consistently Game  Nov 07, 2008
This is based on the regular edition.

Well after two months of listening to this album backwards and forwards I do think The Documentary is still his best album (though usually it's always hard to top the first joint anyhow). I thought Doctor's Advocate was a strong sophmore follow up and as far as musically, slightly better than the documentary. LAX, not as good production wise as the previous two, shows GAME actually maturing as an artist without him losing who he is as an artist trying to be mainstream like so many make the mistake of trying to do usually at this stage of their careers.

Ultimately "Letter to the King" (w/NAS) is probably the most thought provoking and well thought out single he's had to date and the music to it puts you in retrospective and reflection mode for sure. And my ultimate favorite.

Bulletproof Diaries is for the headknockers with Game trying to hold his own lyrically with The Chef, Raekwon but the hook is so tight you don't even trip of Chef carrying the joint. "House of Pain" w/Dr. Dre proves the two definitely still have chemistry, and that Dr. Dre is untouched production wise when focused. "Money" is definitely gangsta without question. "Games Pain" is a joint for the club scene with Keyshia Cole and has been rocking in the clubs through the summer. "Dope Boyz" hit me the first time I heard it and is smoking. "Angel" with Common and "Touchdown" with Raheem DeVaughn is typical r&b cuts for radio play but were decent nonetheless. The weirdest but funkiest joint on there has to be "Ya Heard" w/Ludacris who lyrically killed his part on the track. "Cali Sunshine" w/Bilal seemed more like a summer joint for the West Coast and wasn't lyrically one of Game's best. LAX Files was a nice jumpoff to the album and his song with IceCube "State of Emergency" was a decent West Coast track. Overall the album is good. It may not be 5 stars great but GAME has shown consistency since coming on the scene and that's a very good thing considering the state of Hip Hop today.

5Love it!!! Please support this Artist  Nov 03, 2008
I love this one so much that I actually bought the actual CD. I listened to it at Zune marketplace first though. But when I found out that he had a delux edition I thought that was like an extra incentive because they were not garbage throw aways songs. I actually liked every one of them and thought that they should have been on the CD anyway. I especially liked all of the songs produced by Cool&Dre. Also the one that was produced by Irv Gotti really surprised me because I thought it was a Dre beat at first.
