Description:

There's nothing particularly original about Kasabian. The hirsute Leicester band swaggers like the Stone Roses, plays dance-rock like Primal Scream, and mouths off like Oasis. Singer Tom Meighan even once famously derided Strokes singer Julian Casablancas in an interview with the NME as a "posh f---ing skier." But these are also the things that make Kasabian's debut so endearing. It's an album that spills over with personality and confidence, delivering massive club anthems in the form of songs like "Processed Beats," "Cutt Off" and "L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever)," where the band finds just the right balance between primitive riffs and space-age grooves. -- Aidin Vaziri

44 and five eighth stars  Sep 25, 2009
I bought this album in 2005 ans frankly didnt give it a fair go, I liked Reason is Treason, Club Foot and Cutt Off but hardly gave the rest a listen, then dug it out a week or so ago to listen in the car, and by jove, all of their songs that annoyed me before I am getting into, Processed Beats, LSF, Running Battle, all of which seem to have appeared in ads, on documentaries and football shows seeping into my consciousness ready for me to enjoy at the second time of asking. Yes, it sounds like Gorillaz in places, or BlocParty, but crap lyrics aside, they are strong songs that are performed well. Sometimes I think they overdo the cheeps and chirps a bit, you know like when you were at school doing a painting and you just keep adding a bit more to it, and suddenly, its ruined. AArgh. There is a bit of that here, I sometimes get a little vexed that in the middle of a good dance beat where Im getting a good head nodding vibe going, then they cut to an inappropriate quite bit. Small gripes though, hence the 3/8 short of a perfect score. This is a fun album, the band look like a bunch of clowns as well, and I supect they might actually be a bit knobbish, you know, like that one out of Razorlight. I Hope not. Dont let the fact that the band may, or may not, be a bunch of knobs spoil your enjoyment of this excellent album.

5Copy protection sucks, but the album rocks  Jan 11, 2009
I came for Club Foot, but stayed because of the awesome music.
Yes, the copy protection sucks, but as anyone with internet access can tell you it's not perfect. I had my legally purchased used album copied into iTunes in no time.

5Blown away by how good it is  Jan 13, 2008
The uniqueness of the songs immediately grabbed me with their propulsive beats, tasty hooks, skillful writing and fresh arrangements. It's one of those rare albums where every song is a winner -- no filler here. To me, their sound is a unique blend of what would happen if a brooding indie rocker had his songs remixed by a club DJ. (Note: This album is far superior to their follow-up CD (Empire), so get this one first.)
