Definitely NOT "My Way"! Sep 10, 2009 When I first started the oddyssey of listening to and reviewing every Kiss CD including hits, I never figured how many times exactly I would have to "rock and roll all nite". PLAYLIST YOUR WAY is a CD that slipped through the cracks for me, I didn't even know it existed until a couple weeks ago, such is the frequency of Kiss greatest hits albums these days. I finally got a copy and I have to say, it's just more of the same.
The packaging is interesting at least, if not dissapointing. There's a big round hold in the front cover in lieu of a picture. The hole exposes the CD, and a "music download card" with a picture of Kiss on it. Aside from the obvious danger of top-scratches to your new CD, the hole is at least different. And after listening to about 20 Kiss hits discs, different is (somewhat) good. I don't know what the "music download card" does (not interested) and the inside cover has an ad hawking Kiss ringtones. The packaging looks thick, so you're expecting a booklet of some kind, but it's really just cardboard holding the CD in.
Here's your tracklist:
1. Rock and Roll All Nite
2. Lick It Up
3. I Love It Loud
4. Beth
5. Uh! All Night
6. Strutter
7. Christine Sixteen
8. Detroit Rock City
9. Hard Luck Woman
10. Deuce
11. Love Gun
12. Forever
13. I Was Made for Lovin' You
14. Shout It Out Loud
At first, I was kind of excited because "Uh! All Night" is on here, which struck me as at least the first time it's been on a hits CD. However I was wrong: A quick check revealed it's also on MILLENIUM COLLECTION VOLUME 2. Therefore, every single song here is also on another hits CD. Record company executives have no imagination! How many songs do Kiss have? Why not "Spit" or "Flaming Youth" for a change? To make matters worse, "Beth" is immediately followed by "Uh! All Night". Who the heck thought that was a good idea? The transition is as jarring as any you can imagine.
So: Unimaginative track list, terrible song order, awkward (if different) packaging. There's no real reason to buy this CD. There are so many more on the market now, I can't think of any reason to buy this one instead of another. Unless you absolutely have to have "Uh! All Night" and "Beth" on the same CD, I guess.
1 little tiny star.
