Great music from a very talented woman Mar 08, 2008 I can't quite remember when I first became introduced to Joy Williams, but I do know that this is a very talented woman. She clearly has a set of vocal chords, a distinctive voice, and sings every song with all her heart.
1. It's All Good: This is a song she co-wrote, and "it's all good"! The lyrics are catchy and heartfelt, the beat is inviting (don't be surprised to find your head bopping in time!), and Joy sings it very well. A good way to start out the album. 5/5
2. No Less: This will probably remind people of Britney Spears, but Joy sings way better than Britney. The lyrics are probably a little cheesy, but there is definite heart in this one. 4.5/5
3. I Believe in You: This song was connected with the "Left Behind" movie (the first one). A very powerful slow song, but man, it could bring a tear to your eye! Her singing is perfect for the ambience, and the words are powerful. 4.5/5
4. Up: A much faster song than the previous, this is one that will probably force you on your feet. The lyrics, about taking a stand and searching for your dreams, are crisp, and her voice is so awesome. This is my favorite song of the entire CD. 5/5
5. Touch of Faith: A radio hit, this is a slow-fast song or a fast slow song. Joy again outdoes herself on this one and absolutely melts your heart halfway through. The words are perfect, seeming to flow from the heart instead of inserted to rhyme. 5/5
6. Serious: Another "Britney" wannabe, this one is a little corny (lyrically; the message of staying true to your beliefs is good, but needed some lyrical tightening) but it tries. Again, Joy gives it her all. 4/5
7. Home: Slowing down from "Serious", Joy croons a lovely melody of allowing herself to be placed in the Savior's arms. Not my favorite, but the message is beautiful. 3/5
8. Second Nature: Another song co-wrote by Joy, it details how loving and living with Christ comes "like second nature" in a bouncy, uplifting manner. Another great song. 4/5
9. Better than I: Stripping away most of the extraneous background, Joy croons about how she has made mistakes and how God knows "Better than I". Another great message, but not my favorite. 3.5/5
10. Do They See Jesus in Me: If there is a song on this disc that will make you cry, this is the one. A melancholy piano introduces this heartful plea to be a positive influence for Christ. Joy is perfectly suited to this type of song, and I will admit to singing this song probably the most of all the ones on her disc. 5/5
If you don't like the pop of the late 90's, you may still like some of the songs on this disc (particularly the excellent "Do They See Jesus in Me"). I highly recommend.

Do They See Jesus In Me? Jan 10, 2007 The song "Do They See Jesus In Me?" makes us contemplate our actions and how we appear to the world. It is a beautiful song...
Nice, pop album Jan 06, 2007 I heard samples of Joy Williams years ago and really enjoyed it: it was enough to put her in a category of being a female vocalist I really wanted to hear more of. I finally heard the full thing, and I enjoyed it, but not as much as I thought I would.
This is a good pop album, mixing it up between more upbeat songs like "It's All Good" and "Up" with ballads like "Touch Of Faith" and "Better Than I". It is uplifting lyrically as well.
My favorite tracks on this project are "No Less", "Serious", and "Do They See Jesus In Me?"
If you like pop female vocalists as I do, you will enjoy this project.

"No Less" than fantastic! Apr 15, 2005 Sick of unimaginative, sleazy, semi-authentic synthpop? Tired of overprocessed vocals with no hint of genuine talent? Look no further: Joy Williams's eponymous debut album is your panacea.
A powerful, charismatic vocalist, Williams manages to fuse pop, rock, R&B, and gospel elements together to create a surprisingly cohesive CD. "It's All Good" (the album's premier track) and "Serious" feature definitive hip-hop beats and R&B-flavored vocals. The infectious "Up" and upbeat "Second Nature" are buffed to shiny, exuberant pop perfection. "Touch of Faith," the album's finest track, combines Williams's yearning vocals with inventive sonic beats to create an unforgettably powerful praise & worship song.
Williams's vocal talents, though, really shine in a selection of understated ballads. Featured on the JESUS soundtrack, her hushed but beautiful "I Believe in You" is a direct statement of undying faith in God. In the ethereal "Home," Williams implores God, "Hold me, mold me." "Better Than I" and "Do They See Jesus in Me" offer stately and impressive displays of Williams's quiet confidence in her abilities.
Debut albums rarely seem so fully-formed or confident. And Williams is the perfect antidote to the Britney blues.
