Description:

For such a boldly titled and apparently driven attempt to reinstate Michael Jackson at the center of the pop world, Invincible is a listless thing. Split between scratchy funk workouts and midtempo ballads that might have appeared as Bad B-sides, the album plays on and on while never seriously promoting dancing or romancing. Its handful of weird moments--the resurrection-by-tape of Biggie Smalls on the bridge of the title track, for instance--are hardly large-scale bizarre like the first disc of HIStory. The title track turns out to be hardly the rampant egofest you'd imagine; instead, its subject is a female whom Jackson cheers on. Likewise, the most ear-catching moments of the "comeback" single "You Rock My World" come with Chris Tucker's jivey introduction. Despite a debt to "Payback"-era James Brown, "Rock" floats away like steam midway through. It's almost a relief when the old self-regard turns up: on the growling "Privacy," Jackson rants about muckrakers "stalking" him in search of "the stories you need to bury me," all this long after foundering divas and troubled boy-group members have replaced him on tabloid covers. The man may occasionally break away from the mirror but seems unsure where else to find inspiration. --Rickey Wright

5One of THE BEST  Nov 21, 2009
The pricing of this Album is pissing me off! This is one of the Best Album out there and I don't agree with it being sold for only 5.99! Michael chose from more than a hundred songs to put in this album. The rhythm, the lyrics, the melodies, the message in his music are priceless. I feel like it's an insult to price it like this.

5A Highly Under-Rated GEM - MY FAVORITE.  Nov 19, 2009
I really don't understand how anyone could really give this album a negative review. I think that most of the people who actually have/are giving this album a bad rap (critics included# are not only judging the music, but the person Michael Jackson is/was as well. In my opinion, this album could easily be one of his best -- if not his best -- if a few tracks were trimmed from it, but even so I still think this album is pretty damn solid! Here are my favorites from the album, as well as the tracks I would have kept on Invincible:

1: Unbreakable
2: Heartbreaker
3: Invincible
4: Break Of Dawn
5: Heaven Can Wait
6: You Rock My World
7: Butterflies
8: 2000 Watts
9: Cry
10: Whatever Happens
11: Threatened

If these songs were the only songs featured on Invincible, I am thoroughly convinced this album would have been give HIGH critial praise from critics and fans alike. Each one of the songs that I have listed are very strong, and all total they run almost 60 minutes! But knowing MJ, he loved to put as much out there as he possibly could as seen through-out the sub-sequent release of each album #remember on Thriller and Bad there were far fewer songs, but when Dangerous came out there were a lot more and it ran for nearly 80 minutes! That's the case for this album). All in all, this album features some of my favorite work of his -- Break Of Dawn is absolutely breath-taking, quite possibly my favorite MJ song. Butterflies is old-school Michael, which is great, as well as You Rock My World. Unbreakable is by far the best uptempo track on the album in my opinion, and one of my favorites also. Heaven can wait is a beautiful song, and Whatever Happens is just amazing, very different from the rest of the album - love Santana's guitar work! With its faults and all, I love this album and always have. If you give it an honest listen, I think you will too. I love you Michael, I hope your resting in peace.

3The Dangerous formula.  Nov 10, 2009
10 years after "Dangerous", and the largely ignored "HIStory", Michael Jackson returned to the studio and emerged with a virtual carbon copy of those previous albums. "Invincible" is front-loaded with several fine urban dance songs, complete with cameos by rappers (one deceased) and Michael's ever-more-grating combination of singing and shouting. Of course, there are also several ballads about children (a risky topic for the late pop star), one excellent pop dance track (2000 Watts), and a couple truly fine ballads (Butterflies, Speechless). The first single ('You Rock My World') would have been much better without the Chris Tucker intro and Michael's cheesy dialogue (Who's kidding who here?).

The one truly bad moment of the album (and one of the worst in Michael's entire recording career, actually), is a very cynical and tiresome track called "Privacy", where the King rambles on about how he wants to be left alone. It's as if he's yelling directly at his fanbase to ignore him. Considering "Invicible's" pathetic sales figures, Michael got his wish.

Postscript: Since Jackson's untimely death, sales of this (and all) his albums have skyrocketed. No doubt some reappraisal of even this (his least popular disc) will occur, but even in hindsight this album is still a cynical, overproduced mess that only occasionally reveals the massive talent and star power that was Michael Jackson.

I heard the whole CD and it was so BEAUTIFUL! Michael is an true artist whose talent went straight to orbit. The lyrics on this CD is not only romantic but very passionate, cheerful, positive and so spectacular! I HIGHLY reccommend EVERYONE to buy this CD and you will love it! Its worth every single penny. That's hpw wonderful this music truly is. Also. Michael has a powerful angelic voice and he is angel himself.
