Really grows on you Sep 29, 2009 A friend of mine recently gave me this release from the son of legendary rocker Warren Zevon. He knew I was a fan of Warren, so he thought I'd like the kid. He was right.
I have to admit that the first time I listened to "Insides Out", I was not terribly impressed. The album (hey I'm an old guy---I still call them "albums") opens weakly as far as I'm concerned, with a pop rocker titled "The Joke's On Me". Quite frankly, the opener may very well be my least favorite track---along with "Camila Rhodes". Too "poppy". And I hate "poppy". But then I kept listening and listening. And I started to like it.
But for me, the real turning point for this release comes about halfway through, when I hit the title track, at track #6. From there to the end, this is a FANTASTIC release! Things slow down a bit, and we begin to hear Dad's influence more and more. The real gem is "Studebaker", the 8th track. Of course I'm prejudiced here. This is the only song on the album written by Warren Zevon, and Jordan does a mesmerizing rendition, sounding just like his dear old Dad. Warren would be proud. Jordan even blesses us with instrumentation from some of Warren's old bandmates---the great David Lindley on lap steel and Waddy Wachtel on guitar. We even get Dylan's boy, Jakob, on backing vocals. Whew! Talk about some good fatherly influence! Best track on the album.
The more I listen to this release, the more I like it. Jordan has done a great job of establishing his own identity, without sounding like a clone of his father. But the influence is definitely there. And having Warren Zevon as an influence is a real blessing.
Jordan, keep up the good work. I won't wait for your next release to be given to me as a gift.

BRILLANT DEBUT Jul 30, 2008 I picked this CD up while in NYC when it debuted and didnt have a CD player with, I couldnt wait to get back home to listen to it and was not dissappointed. What can I say Warren Zevon has left a wonderful legacy behind. Jordan Zevon follows in the talents of his father. This album is unlike anything you have ever heard, much like his father's album. It is unfortunate that the record company does not promote this album more as it outdoes any music I have currently heard. But then again that is the same fate as his father suffered. That never stopped him coming back with more and I hope the same with Jordan Zevon. When is his tour?!?!?!?!
A chip off the old block, but with a new twist. Jun 20, 2008 Excellent! Great lyrics and pleasant tunes. Warren would be so proud of his son.

Fantastic Debut Jun 19, 2008 Power-pop fans should love this exceptional debut CD from Jordan Zevon. It's loaded with great melodies and clever wordplay. If you saw him on Letterman a couple of months back, you know that he delivers a great live performance, too. If you want to get in on the ground floor of a great career, order "Insides Out" -- you'll be able to impress your friends with your great discovery!
