Still very worthy along the '80s Apr 10, 2009 Luis Mejia - If I Should Love Again was a minor turn back for Barry Manilow's popularity in the dawn of the '80s, as it was seemingly more popular than the pasts Barry and Here Comes The Night; and for once it was findable. Two hits were recognizeable in his hit songs collection; "The Old Songs", a memorable passage given away by Manilow with honesty, as can be felt he had love for music and his idols, and "Somewhere Down The Road", a top class ballad about love parting ways. For once this is an album full of lush ballads, mostly wonderfully arranged, Barry Manilow is a certain ballad man, but some songs; apart from the hits, don't sound as if they were really thought through, specially in the lyrics sector. "Fools Get Lucky" and "No Other Love" could have been hits too, another example of how production in the soft rock business is not very intelligent, but when we get to the title track you really start to get in the album, one very powerful song that moves you at it's inmediate listen. "Let's Hang On" made it to the charts too, despite of being an inoffensive, rythm dependant song. This album still proves Manilow as an outstanding performer, and the challenge of time does not seem to affect him or his music.
VERY PLEASED Jun 27, 2008 I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE I RECEIVED. THE CD WAS EVERYTHING I HOPED FOR: QUALILTY, PRICED RIGHT AND ARRIVED IN A TIMELY MANNER. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT SERVICE.
Manilow Mood Music Mar 09, 2007 Beautiful album! Great songs! 11 in all, at a total time a hair over 40 minutes. Some songs I had not heard before. Some I've only heard a few times.
"The Old Songs" and "Somewhere Down the Road" are Manilownian staples and beautiful songs. "Let's Hang On" is one of my favorites. It rocks and I'm really glad Barry recorded it. "If I Should Love Again" is another absolutely BEAUTIFUL song and appears on many Barry CDs. The piano bridge on this song is just awesome, in my opinion, and is crescendos so beautifully. These songs are all great; they are all the standard Manilow arrangements.
The less-frequently heard songs follow. "Don't Fall in Love With Me" has a nice little easy-listening cha-cha beat. (Don't fall in love with me. I'll only break your heart. For us, forever is just tomorrow. . .) "Break Down the Door" rocks. It has a nice driving beat. "No Other Love" has a very pretty melody with lots of feeling in the words (There was no other love but you--where did our love go--type song).
"Fools Get Lucky" is a slow song. (In other words, I am a fool, but got lucky anyway because I found you). "I Haven't Changed the Room" is also a pretty slow song. "Let's Take All Night (to say Goodbye)"--That says it all, a slow song--Let's take all night to say goodbye, `cause goodbye is hard to say. (H-m-m-m-m. After you spend all night saying goodbye, maybe you won't need to say goodbye, or want to. Heck, no. I'm stayin' now--But what do I know?). Pretty song, anyway. "You're Runnin" Too Hard" kind of a "bop" (You're partying too hard--slow down before you crash)
Great album, especially if you want some of these less-heard songs. On a scale of 1 - 5, I would certainly give it a 5 and it's worth every penny. If you don't already have a lot of Manilow music, there are many other Manilow albums I would buy first though, like "Barry Live in Britain" or "Greatest Hits The Platinum Collection" or "Live on Broadway" among others--and also the 50s and 60s CDs. The Silver boxed Complete Collection with 4 CDs + 1 DVD is also an excellent compilation of songs. I'd give all of these a 10 or better.

Nothing But Excellence Here!!! Sep 07, 2006 Manilow's "If I Should Love Again" album is one that I consider to be his last great effort. Produced in 1981, it spawned three hits: "The Old Songs" - #9; "Let's Hang On" - #32; "Somewhere Down the Road" - #20.
Musically, the album is phenomenal. Of the ten tracks, all but two are ballads. The orchestration is full and not overdone; Manilow's vocals are stellar, as his piano playing. All of the ballads have melodies that are so well constructed that each one will leave you hanging, wanting more. Lyrically, each tune is very solid and poetically written. It's just a great album all the way around.
Aside from the hits, my favorite tunes are the title track and "I Haven't Changed the Room." The title track, written by Manilow, has the best piano solo of his career. Awesome chord changes, crescendos, voice leading - it is truly amazing. The other tune, "I Haven't Changed the Room" is just Manilow and his piano. A song, also written by Barry, is about a broken relationship in which the singer has left things the way they were so as not to forget the memories. Beautifully written and just over two minutes long, it breaks away from his power ballad style into a vehicle that simply expresses the words.
If you've enjoyed Manilow's music in the past and have not heard this album, this should be one of high priority. You will not be disappointed!
