5FLIP style  May 29, 2008
I don't know what other people are talking about. Lil Flip goes off on this CD. I will say though I bought this CD and Big Wheel Records - Hood Muzik on the same day and ended up listening to Hood Muzic more with those boys Froze ony, Rizzo, Younf tay, O2, Doughboy, and Lil Richard. Check it out!

5Totally awesome!!!  Feb 12, 2008
One look at the cover of this album and I was saying to myself that this is going to be something new and creative because no one in hip hop tries the album cover holding up money and jewelry. This guy and D4L are the only two bold enough to pull that off and we know how innovative D4L was. I'm a rapper myself and I just can't get a following. I write raps about garage door openers, beans and mouthwash because I thought I would be different. No one wants to hear about that stuff. They want to hear what a genius like Lil Flip has to say. An aside, on my rankings of rappers with Lil in their name, I rank Flip number 15. He's no Lil Wayne, Lil Jon, Lil Scrappy or Lil Flushot, but that boy good.

What sets him apart is that he deviates from the norm. What other rappers have the sack to write deep tracks like: I get money, Playa 4 life, Hustle, Get it Crunk and Make it Shake. This cat is breaking new ground and I am inspired to write new stuff. I'm changing my name to Lil Bpimp and putting out an album called, "I got money, come here shawtys". It will go multiplatinum and I'll get a goblet covered in rubies. I'm so crizzunk.

4it wasnt love at first listen!  Dec 18, 2007
As the title states it definitely was not love at first listen. But after a few more listens I began to tolerate it. Then I listened to it again a couple weeks later and realized that I had really slept on this album. This album has some really good beats, and some decent lyrics(as we all know Flip is not the best lyricist). The guest spots are great too. The bad thing about this album is that there are a lot of fillers. This cd could easily be trimmed down to a single cd. I personally love double albums, but this should not be one. If it were just the following songs: Ghetto Mindstate, Bustaclip, Playa 4 Life, White Cup, Find My Way, Single Mother, I just wanna tell you, Sorry lil mama, Take you there, We go make it out da hood, Cruise Control, Real Hip Hop, Stay Ballin, Get it crunk, Tell Me, 3,2,1 Go, Make it Shake, What it do, and the remixes of Fly Boy and Youz a Trick: then I would definitely rate it a 5 star, but due to all the filler tracks I have to give it a four. So all in all it is worth your time and money.

2Flip the bird  Oct 25, 2007
Truth be told, I have never been much of a Lil' Flip fan other than "Game Over". But I still decided to give his latest album I Need Mine a try. This album was actually supposed to be released back in 2005 but his label shelved it, and it's easy to see why.

If you're planning on listening to this album, make sure you don't have much to do for the rest of the day because it's hard to sit through. And it's not because most of the things that Flip has to say are uninspired; it's also because now he added on another whole album's worth of material on here, thus resulting in the whole thing clocking in at almost 2-1/2 hours. In addition, there are two remixes of remixes on here ("Fly Boy" and "You'z a Trick"), and the only saving grace to either of them is UGK's appearance on the second "You'z a Trick".

And Flip usually uses the same subject matter: either shooting people up or bragging about his success -- oh, and an obligatory song for the ladies (see the Mya-assisted "Flippin'", which features a sample probably best remembered from Heavy D and the Boyz' "Nuttin' But Love"). Speaking of that, though, guest stars are another issue. Nate Dogg and Lyfe Jennings do add nice hooks to the respective tracks "Take You There" and "Ghetto Mindstate", and Yukmouth sounds fine on "Stay Ballin'", as do Three Six Mafia on "3,2,1 Go". But most of the other guests fall flat, especially the boring hooks by some crooner called Big Shasta (see "The Souf" or "We Go Make It Out da Hood"). And as for "Sorry Lil' Mama", well, Z-Ro and Nutt definitely live up to their names.

Flip isn't all that when he's by himself either, as evidenced by the boring "Warrior" or "I Just Wanna Tell U" (and the noodle brand is pronounced RAH-men, not RAY-men; why can't rappers pronounce that?). There are also a couple of formulaic songs that fail to impress, like the shake-that-ass vibe of "Make It Shake" and the song with a message, "Single Mother". And on "Hall of Fame Graveyard", he gives props to deceased rappers, but he also zings himself when he asks why all the good rappers are dead while the wack rappers are still alive.

There are other bad songs on here, but I didn't feel like listening to 37 tracks worth of material again to pinpoint them. And when your album is that long and it isn't even good, well...I shouldn't have to explain anything else. Even though I only downloaded this Lil' Flip album, if you want it, you're welcome to it because I sure don't need mine.
