Classic Dec 03, 2009 Ask even a 60 year old yuppie about Janis, and they will mentionCheap Thrills or Pearl, reliving those long ago hippie days. "How does a kid like you know about her?" they may ask.
But hardcore music fans of all ages know I Got Them All Kosmic Blues Again. Probably because it is Joplins best album. With its absolutely crack horn and rhythm sections, the Kosmic Blues Band is far superior to Big Brother And The Holding Company.
Tracks like "Try" "Maybe," really any one you choose from this album are absolutely sterling in playing and writing. They take blues, inject R&B cadences and give it a rock inpulse. The band hits every note letter perfect, but these are no cold corpse pros. They absolutely feel every note of this grade A blues.
Janis's singing here is just outragous, and works better than on Cheap Thrills. Her voice was so big and bold, it is buffered perfectly by the bigger sound of the horn section. So when Janis really begins to belt, she has ample backing to provide counterpoint to and engance her voice.
If not convined, go to You Tube and look up Janis Joplin on Dick Cavett's show in 1969. This is Kosmic Blues in action, and if this does not sell you, go listen to Brittney.
Janis at the height of her career Sep 14, 2009 I think this album captures Janis at the height of her much-too-short career. She had left Big Brother and the Holding Company and was trying to break into a more mainstream style of blues. Sure, the horn section is a bit much at times, but Janis has that high-energy delivery going dead on. Sort of a Tina Turner way before her time. If you like Janis, you should own this album.
The Best!! Apr 07, 2009 I feel this was one of Janis Joplins best recordings. Every song is great.
THE EMERGING PERSONA OF PEARL Dec 26, 2008 THIS IS THE FIRST SOLO ALBUM FROM JANIS JOPLIN AFTER SHE LEFT BIG BROTHER AND THE HOLDING COMPANY. SHE NO LONGER WANTED TO BE JUST ANOTHER MEMBER OF A BAND, AND WAS STARTING TO MORPH INTO HER "PEARL" PERSONA AT THIS POINT (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH "SASHA FIERCE"). FANS OF JANIS JOPLIN WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS ALBUM, HER VOICE IS IN GOOD FORM, AND THIS CD INCLUDES TWO LIVE TRACKS THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED ON THE ORIGINAL ALBUM
excellent Nov 05, 2008 awesome cd,the highlight for me is "one good man" with fantastic guitar work from MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD.
