Green Andy: Green Andy Reviews: Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today Oct 04, 2009 "Trip at the brain! Trip at the brain!" I won't even go into what a joke Suicidal turned into by the end of their career, half because I prefer to remember them as the completely awesome band they were at the time of this album, and half because singer Mike Muir is said to have extensive gang connections, and I don't know how easy it would be for him to send someone to kick my ass. So let's just say that the group's later work really isn't to my tastes, and that this album (especially its opening track "Trip at the Brain") is a particular favorite of mine.
Suicidal had been inching away from their original skate-punk sound since the day they started, and their transition to thrash metal was complete with this album. One of the biggest catalysts of this shift was the addition of second guitarist Mike Clark, who took on a lot of the writing chores and opened up lead guitarist Rocky George for extended soloing. Everything that's great about Suicidal Tendencies is available in spades on this record: the tight grooves, pummeling thrash guitars, Mike Muir's mix of social commentary and introspection. Some of the band's best songs make their debut here. In addition to the aforementioned "Trip at the Brain", there's the moshpit-roiling "Suicyco Mania", the true-to-its-name "Surf and Slam", and the intense title track, all of which must be at the top of any Suicidal fans' best-of list. There are no real dead spots on this album. Even the lesser-known tracks like "Sorry?!" and "One Too Many Times" are well-constructed and dynamic, and nothing sounds like a throwaway, which couldn't always be said of later records.
If you've never owned a Suicidal Tendencies album (turned off by the name, were you?), this is a fine place to start. Future Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo hadn't yet joined, but the fluid basslines of Bob Heathcote make it evident that he'd soon fit right in. Possibly their self-titled debut is a bit stronger, and certainly more legendary, but if you want the band's best straight-ahead metal album, this is the one to get.

Typical punk/metal band May 30, 2009 I was at a CD store and asked the guy who was working there if the special edition of "The Young and the Hopeless" by Good Charlotte was in yet. He laughed at me and said that they're "kiddie punk" and suggested me this CD by some band called Suicidal Tendencies yet. Man, after listening to this album I think I have suicidal tendencies! What a failtastic album! The lyrics are way too emo (refer to the title track) and the band is super untalented. If you want real music listen to Good Charlotte, Akon, Simple Plan, Blink 182, Creed, new Metallica, Paramore or Nickelback.
ST for life Feb 24, 2009 Great classic album from ST a must have for all fans of this band .
AMERCIAN IDOL WINNER TO TOUR WITH NAPALM DEATH Sep 15, 2008 This is another great CD by Suicidal Tendencies. It leans more on the metal side of the scale, but is enjoyable for lovers of crossover. It's a pity later CD's like "The art of rebellion" and "Suicidal for life" suck to the extreme, making early fans like myself totally lose interest in the band.
When they toured Australia, Suicidal were billed with Alice in chains, who were headliners. Suicidal played a great set and were received well. After their set I left the gig for greener pastures, as did 95% of the remaining crowd. Later I was told only 25 people, who won tickets via a commercial radio station stayed to see Alice in chains.
Older but WORTH IT Apr 07, 2008 I heard this band when I first joined the Army and have never forgotten they're "I hear Voices" song. I introduced them to my brother who is 16 and he loves them as well. They are a great band if you like the heavier music.
