Description:

Remember the days when every band from Bon Jovi to the Fixx embraced keyboards like a long-lost lover? Whether you consider rock's tickling of the electronic ivories the good ol' days or the devil's spawn will determine how much you are going to like a good part of Eve 6's Horrorscope. Once again, the band enlists producer Don Gilmore, who expands the group's sound with dense, unsustained vocals; basic Van Halen riffs ("On the Roof Again," "Amphetamines"); and a rhythmic urgency that resurrects images of '80s group the Call ("Rescue," "Promise"). Eve 6 recorded their debut barely after the ink had dried on their high school diplomas. There's little doubt that the talented young trio holds tremendous promise (the band members can write head-bobbing hooks blindfolded), but in terms of fresh songwriting creativity, Horrorscope falls short of the efforts of similarly precocious contemporaries such as Ash and Supergrass. This is largely Gilmore's album, and when Eve 6 find the confidence to toss aside the studio-trickery crutch and the pop-metal security blanket, they should grow into a formidable rock band. --Beth Massa

5Eve 6 makes good on their 'promise' and delivers a top notch follow-up to their much loved debut!  Sep 28, 2006
When Eve 6 dropped their debut album everyone I knew was obsessed with `Inside Out'. Since then I've listened to and owned all of Eve 6's albums, and it always turns out that `Horrorscope' spends the most time in my CD player. To me, this is the definitive Eve 6 album delivering hook laden tracks from open to close and keeping my head bobbing and my feet tapping constantly. My favorite track here is still the first single `Promise' which to me is one of the catchiest songs I've heard in recent years, but that's not to say that the rest of album pales in comparison. `Enemy' and `Amphetamines' are also standouts, and then of course there's the balladish type track known as `Here's to the Night' that really garnered them attention. Max Collins still makes good use of his lyrics, using phrases in multiple ways and singing them with enough flow to make every word appear effortless. Great album all the way around, sure to please any fan of Eve 6 and I'm quite certain it will become a favorite!

This band is one of my favorite bands, stumbled over it one day i was watching a film, the song Inside out played, and i managed to track it down, thats when i bought this album, and i love it, the catchy lyrics and sweet music make them great to listen too, always makes me feel good, favorites are "heres to the night" - and "inside out" - "rescue", and ofcourse the rest is just as good. Definitely you should check this Album out.

5Probably known forever the CD with the song played at graduations  Jun 15, 2006
This CD is great to listen to. They definitely put themselves in this CD (not just what the label wanted them to do too!). Of course "Here's to the Night" is probably one of the most popular songs played with High School graduations. BUT don't let that distract you from the true beauty of this CD!

5Replayable  Feb 17, 2006
There are very few albums that I can stand to listen to in their entirety. This would be one of them.

4Eve 6: Mega Teen Soft Rock Band  Jul 11, 2005
This is my second Eve 6 album I have reviewed and listened too and it wasn't a bad album at all. Eve 6 has had several of their songs play in feature teenage films and many young listeners will recognise the songs of 'Promise' and 'Here's To The Night'. And this isn't a bad thing cause the trio from the States are just passed their teenage years themselves. 'Horrorscope' was in my opinion set out to capture the 16-28 age demographic and the band did well. My friend went to one of their on-the-road concerts in the eastern states and said 95% of the crowd were within this age range.
The album has some other notable songs, for the rock sounds but not the lyrics in which the band lacked depth or experience. Song's like 'Rescue', 'Enemy' and 'Nightmare' had some good guitar and keyboard riffs. The vocals were done well and overall the album was a winner, the only think lacking was good lyrics to go with the songs.
