What are you waiting for? Jan 10, 2009 For quite some time now, this historic album/concert has been selling for about 25% of list price through Amazon's used sellers. At that price, it becomes an absolute necessity - a steal - a MUST hear for anyone who enjoys the piano as a musician or listener.
Forget the quibbles about Horowitz "derailing" in the opening Busoni-Bach. It makes the musicianship that comes later even more impressive, inspiring, and moving. Not to mention human.
I am one of those rare pianists who found Horowitz' playing inhuman - in the sense that it is technically brilliant, yet steely; lacking warmth and at times way too idiosyncratic. Listening to the second disc in this set is to hear playing by a titan of the keyboard - this is the sound of the "legendary" Horowitz.
Rubinstein famously said that while Horowitz was the better pianist, he (Rubinstein) was the better musician. Yet on disc two Horowitz gives Rubinstein a run for his money. I would argue that Horowitz, whose playing descended to levels of self-awareness and self-parody in the 70s, did not regain the lightness and humanity on display here until some of his final recordins for DG. (Note: The epochal disc Horowitz In Moscow Horowitz in Moscow seems to be selling for around $2 used on amazon today. If you love the piano you need this disc in your library.)
You, and your music library, deserve this live Carnegie Hall set. I doubt that we'll hear playing like this ever again.
Horowitz Live and Unedited Oct 28, 2008 Horowitz Live and Unedited [includes Bonus DVD]
The sound is simply astonishing, as if it were recorded on 21st century equipment instead of forty years ago. If you enjoy classical piano, this is an essential for your collection. Horowitz at his best.

Horowitz Live and Unedited, with bonus DVD Sep 14, 2008 I am a pianist, and a piano teacher, who has admired Horowitz, since my college days in the 80's. I purchased this item, mainly for the DVD, to share with my piano students in a group class, so they will know about the tremendous ability of Horowitz. I was a little disappointed that the DVD was only about ten minutes, and not longer, but greatly enjoyed the CD's with mistakes actually left in! It was fascinating to hear the great Horowitz make a few, mistakes, and encouraging to other pianists, who know that concerts do have mistakes at times-no one's perfect.

Horowitz Plays again in public for first time in 12 years Aug 24, 2007 This is a MUST for all Horowitz fans. The Horowitz technique is unparalleled, and you must hear him play in front of an audience after 12 years.
I think it is one of his best performances -- maybe because I like the way he played things I've heard at other Horowitz performances.
But, I like all of his music, and a new performance of the same piece is a little different than others -- but all very interesting.

A historical legacy! Mar 28, 2006 Despite I am not a Horowitz admirer, it 's worthy to underline and emphasize the colossal pianism and thunderous fingering around every one of its different performances.
The special distinction around this album is the fresh inspiration and notable musicality emanated in this Recital, that deserves to be catalogued as a cult recording among the impressive and even excellent live recordings in the Sixties.
A bravura performance and a genuine expression make of this album a very special recommendation.
