LIKE A GRAVEYARD FUNK FEST.........LOUD AND NASTY!!! Nov 12, 2009 Dead Weather have gone ahead and combined a few ingredients that I have been trying to mix together myself for some time. Perhaps they had the braun to do it before me without getting me upset. In fact, I quite like what they have done with the elements. It's a loud ass funk fest, essentially... in the beat of some of your more party friendly hippie jam bands (See: Deep Bannana Blackout)but with more of an edge for the dark. This is the band I would bring to the cemetary, see? To wake up the dead... with some wild cat like crooning and some loose end wailing it's definate raw sleaze, as bad and nasty as a "New Pony" (like in the Dylan song, which is covered here to an intense degree!) Surely a good time.
The lead protagonist is a hard edged women who wants you to recognize that although she can cut like a buffalo you still better treat her like your mother. The supporting vocals come in nicely from this brotherly type just lending a hand to catch some fire. The band really jams out, and jams out right, considering their varied backgrounds, to make a very cohesive sounding album, with lots of fun suprises that really let you work out that volume nob! Did I mention that its pretty f'in RAW and NASTY?! It's stuff like this that show a fresh new creative edge in the music biz. Keep it coming...
Another pleaser from Jack White Oct 01, 2009 The album is kind of all over the place, but I love it for the most part. Jack White's influence is definitely noticeable. Overall: Horehound rocks.

Good listening! Sep 26, 2009 One of the best CDs this year. Don't buy it if you expect to hear the White Stripes. The Dead Weather are their own band with their own sound. They RAWK!

Horehound, The Dead Weather Sep 11, 2009 This album is classic, yet modern and innovative. I will enjoy it for years to come regardless if this band continues to make music. I bought it because I am a big Jack White fan probably like a lot of people. But the whole band is good, especially the singer Alison; she belts it. Like much of Jack's music, it is hard driving blues-rock. Jack pounds on the drums and has simple yet catchy drum patterns, the guitars are loud and tonal without excessive soloing, some bass highlights, the keys/synth are phenomenal (one of my favorite parts of their live performance). Jack sings a few songs, Allison does the majority of the singing. Alison rocks.
