Description:

For decades, there s been speculation that somebody, somewhere, would produce an updated version of Hollywood Babylon, perhaps even more notorious than the first two volumes compiled a half-century ago by avant-garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger. For pop culture fanatics, his books became an underground legend.

Anger s original version had to be published in Paris, as it was too hot for America at the time. But beliefs about celebrities, sexuality, and morality have changed radically since then. New waves of narcissists, exhibitionists, and looney toons have invaded the entertainment industry. The gossip industry has transformed America into a nation of voyeurs. By today s standards, Anger s spin on Babylon looks downright demure.

With a respectful nod to those long-ago statements by Kenneth Anger, Blood Moon is proud to release another Hollywood Babylon, in this case more shocking and more scandalous than before. Within this first volume, we visit Babylon as well as Sodom and Gomorrah. And we don t deal just with Hollywood s Golden Age we zero in on some present-day brouhahas as well.

Buyer beware: The scandals exposed within this book are not for the faint-of-heart. You might not think of the old pinups in quite the same way after reading this edition. Those offended by male movie stars dropping trou for offscreen cameras should stick to Alice in Wonderland.

It s true: We re not shy about male nudity, or even female nudity. Today, nudity in films is commonplace.

In the past, the porno films made by major movie stars (including Joan Crawford and Sylvester Stallone) were enveloped in a sense of secrecy and, perhaps, shame. Today, what would previously have been defined as pornography regularly makes its way onto the screen.

Within this book, Blood Moon daringly applies the gossipy reportage of today to the tabloid scandals of yesterday think Confidential Magazine on amphetimines with access to the Internet. Breast measurements of Hollywood bombshells are being widely publicized. Even the mainstream press has gotten more graphic. Time Magazine has even published the length (in inches) of Hugh Grant s penis.

Scandal is not limited just to events within America. Within this edition of Hollywood Babylon, it goes global. As such, we visit the Vatican boudoir of a former pope and his male lovers. And we document Sir Winston Churchill s onetime sexual liaison with Britain s most handsome actor.

There's more. Revealed for the first time are stories about James Dean, the child molester; Bette Davis, offscreen murderess; Errol Flynn, the incestuous father; Ava Gardner, the part-time lesbian; and Marilyn Monroe s involvements with Jackie Kennedy and Elvis Presley.

We ll even tell you about what happened to Judy Garland s body before it was finally laid to rest.

Hollywood celebrity biographer Darwin Porter and former New York Times reporter Danforth Prince take you on a roller-coaster ride through the scandals of yesterday and today. An early reviewer referred to this book as A movieland massacre, followed by an autopsy with a scalpel whose cutting edge is coated with Lucretia Borgia s poison. It s about The Good, The Bad, and the Fabulous.

To those who love her, Hollywood was and is a gossipy, mendacious (Big Daddy's word), and whorish place that remains captivating despite the passage of time. In Hollywood Babylon, it s depicted at its sleaziest, most venal, and most deliciously unseemly.

Rock Hudson said it all In Hollywood, you can keep a mistress, or a boyfriend, maybe both. You can go gay, -bi, or pan-sexual. Just don't tell anybody, and don't get caught.

1Awful and boring  Nov 04, 2009
A book on scandals and bad? Boy, it must be really bad. This one is really bad!Do you want the whole scoop? All of it? You read only two books, and only these two books: "Hollywood Earth Shattering Scandals:The Infamous, Vilains, Nynphomaniacs and Shady Characters in Motion Pictures." and "Hollywood Babylon,"
The rest is simply rehashes and imitation.

Don't waste yout time and money.
Nothing new. Taken from older and outdated books without anything new. When you copy an old book, you copy old junk.

2A general review of the best and not so good scandals' books on the market  Oct 31, 2009
A general review of the best and not so good scandals' books on the market

Book: HOLLYWOOD EARTH SHATTERING SCANDALS: THE INFAMOUS, VILLAINS, NYMPHOMANIACS AND SHADY CHARACTER IN MOTION PICTURES. By Maximillien de Lafayette, Melinda Pomerleau, Germaine Poitiers, et al.
Characteristics of this book: This is my favorite book, followed by the underground classic "Hollywood Babyblon" by the legendary Kenneth Angers. Lafayette's book is the most recently published book on Hollywood's scandalous stars and the silver screen. It is huge. Explosive from cover to cover. Abundance of photographs (Nearly 520 nw and rare prints). Extensive coverage of the whole spectrum of scandals, affairs and shady personages of Hollywood of all time, thus making this book, the most complete, the most informative, and no doubt, the best for your buck.

Book: HOLLYWOOD BABYLON. By Kenneth Anger.
Characteristics of this book: The book of all books in this arena. Forget any bad review about this book. They were self-serving. Anger's wit, style, and vocabulary are unmatched. It was the first, and will always remain the most read book on the market. His direct access to Hollywood studios' bosses added an extra dimension to his vast knowledge of hidden facts.

Book: ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD: FROM THE SECRET FILES OF HARRY PENNYPACKER. By Michael Druxman.
Characteristics of this book: It is very interesting, and almost essential for all thoses who went to go back in time and read the gossip columns and tabloids of the era. I liked this book, because it has some historical value. Excellent book. A very good compilation.

Book: THE HOLLYWOOD BOOK OF SCANDALS. By James Robert Parish.
Characteristics of this book: Large print, a good selection of photos, and plenty of information. The author knows his craft. The narratives on Rudolph Valentino are exceptionally good. Lots of references made to particular moments in Hollywood's history, thus anchoring the credibility of used facts and data.

Book: DISHING HOLLYWOOD. By Laurie Jacobsen.
Characteristics of this book: A very unusual book, for the simple facts, that Jacobsen incorporated food recipes and menus. She classified her articles into categories such as Breakfast, Luch, Cocktails, Main Dishes, so on, being an ex-waitress. I loved her style of writing, she is refreshing and funny. The articles on Liberace and Bin Crosby and Bobby Darin deliver the goods.

Book: THE HOLLYWOOD BOOK OF DEATH: THE BIZARRE, OFTEN SORDID, PASSINGS OF MORE THAN 125 AMERICAN MOVIE AND TV IDOLS. By James Parish.
Characteristics of this book: Yes, extremely entertaining. Definitely, I will add it to the list of the best books. Parish is a powerful and responsible writer. Any book by him is worth reading.

Book: THE WORLD'S GREATEST HOLLYWOOD SCANDALS. By Robin Cross and John Marriot.
Characteristics of this book: I liked very much this book because it had material burried in the dust of secrecy. The two authors dislike stars, particulary studios bosses, and vain stars. Lot of intensity is placed upon their personal lives, even though it is a small book. It is very helpful, despite the fact that it was cheaply produced, small print, no punctuation, and sometime badly organized. Nervertheless, it is very informative.

Book: SEX LIVES OF THE HOLLYWOOD GODDESSES. By Nigel Cawthorne.
Characteristics of this book: Typical British witttttt. Sarcastic but well-founded. A small book, but large in information and striking details. It is limited to the sex lives of stars. Could be very useful to those who are interested in the boudoirs of actresses.

Book: HOLLYWOOD'S SILENT CLOSET. By Darwin Porter.
Characteristics of this book: A huge book. It is a novel, part fiction, part confession. Some have said it's a major propaganda for homosexuals. It could be true. However through its fictional flair, lots of facts of emerge, particular those who are related to homoseual actors and their closet world.

Book: HOLLYWOOD BABYLON-IT'S BACK. By Darwin Porter and Danforth Prince.
Characteristics of this book: What happened here, I don't know. I was fooled by the title, and it is my mistake. I thought it was an updated edition of Anger's book, but unfortunately, it is NOT. Nothing is important about this book. However, some serious research and digging are apparent.

1A TOTAL DISASTER  Oct 31, 2009
The first original title (THE REAL ONE BY KENNETH ANGER) is a classic. This new so-called updated edition is a disaster. Trashy!
Anger's original book (HOLLYWOOD BABYLON), published in Paris some fifty five years ago was the first book to start a trend, many other publications followed. Regardless of the authenticity of the research, the books still appeals to the crowd. A classic by all means. Filled with intimate accounts. It deserves five stars. However, the book has its limitation, because first, the author did not investigate all the scandals, and second, the book stopped at an early age of Hollywood. Most recently, I discovered a new book titled [HOLLYWOOD EARTH SHATTERING SCANDALS. THE INFAMOUS, VILLAINS, NYMPHOMANIACS AND SHADY CHARACTERS IN MOTION PICTURES]. This one continues the sage and elaborates on zillions of scandals and stories totally unknown to us. In addition, it continues with an investigative reporting on the most recent scandals. I was fascinated by this new book; its author a French Hollywood historian and a group of Hollywood insiders did a magnificent job, totally different from Kenneth Anger's style and dramatic narrative.
Kenneth Anger's colorful style is noticed, and the amount of original findings is impressive. Back to this so-called new edition of HOLLYWOOD BABYLON; it did not deliver a good product.Nothing new. Nothing exciting. Why to bother?

3My list of the 5 best books on Hollywood and Stars scandals  Oct 27, 2009
My list of the 5 best books on Hollywood and Stars scandals

After an extensive research and readings, I have compiled a list of the best books on Hollywood and stars scandals.
The best in this rank order:

Number 1: Hollywood Earth Shattering Scandals: The Infamous, Villains, Nymphomaniacs and Shady Characters in Motion Pictures. It is the newest, largest and the most explosive. Lots of new stories and scandals we did not hear about or read in other books. The galleries of photos are impressive. Author, Maximillien de Lafayette. Definitely this is the very best. Rating: 5 stars

Number 2: Hollywood Babylon. Simply because it was the first, the pioneering work that opens the Pandora Box. Author, Kenneth Anger. This book is still interesting. Rating: 5 stars. But not this edition!!

Number 3: The Hollywood Book of Scandals. Some new stuff, but lots of rehashes. Rating: 3 stars.

Number 4: Sex lives of Hollywood Goddesses. Very very interesting, but little. However, juicy. Author: Nigel Cawthorne. Rating: 3 stars.

Number 5: Dishing Hollywood. Not much stuff but engaging. Author: Laurie Jacobson. Rating: 3 stars.
