Doesn't all hold up Aug 19, 2009 With his second run of the Radiohead catalog the pianist begins to lack a cohesive creation. Some of the treatments, more than on volume one, feel unnecessary here (they just don't appealingly translate to piano even with O'Riley's embellishments) but enough still works to have an EP's worth of showcase stuff.

Amazingly Beautiful Aug 11, 2009 I don't know which is more amazing: Radiohead's music, O'Riley's imagination as an arranger, or his skill as a pianist. Combine all three and you have a phenomenal listening experience. I am absolutely in love with this recording. The arrangements sound like Rachmaninoff meets Messiaen meets Radiohead meets John Adams, and they are performed with the intelligence of Artur Rubinstein and the flair of Horowitz.
You do not have to know the Radiohead originals to appreciate O'Riley's arrangements. You don't even have to be a rock fan, or a classical fan, for that matter. But I have a background in classical piano, and I would urge every pianist to listen to this recording. Think of these arrangements as a wonderful addition to the piano repertoire. I can't think of anything this satisfying since John Adams's Phrygian Gates.
For pianists I recommend getting the score, which is available from O'Riley's web site [...] .It is beautifully produced, with funky artwork similar to the art used in Radiohead's CD booklets. I had the book for a while on my coffee table just to show it off--that's how cool it looks. The arrangements are easy to read, but be warned: they are very difficult to play.

Not Just Reverence -- Real Passion! Jul 09, 2009 Back in 2003, Sony released True Love Waits, a recording of classical pianist Christopher O'Riley's piano transcriptions of songs by rock group Radiohead. That recording became a minor hit, and one of my personal favorite recordings of the past several years.
Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly, given the vagaries of the music business these days), this follow-up recording of O'Riley playing Radiohead is not on the Sony label, but rather on World Village, a branch of Harmonia Mundi. In any event, Hold Me to This is a most welcome release that if anything, is even more rewarding than True Love Waits. On this new release, O'Riley seems to inject more of his own emotion into the music, his playing being more expressive and intense than it was on the first release. It is as though he has found out that fans of the band appreciated what he was doing, and now he can relax and really show not just reverence but also real passion for this music.
Classical music fans who have not heard any of O'Riley's transcriptions--or any Radiohead--may well be wondering how on earth any transcription of rock music could be worth listening to (in his enjoyable liner notes, O'Riley mentions receiving an e-mail message from a fan of From the Top, his classical-music radio show, that inquired, "Who is this Mr. `Head', and where can I find more of his beautiful music?"), but I believe most music fans, classical or otherwise, would find this recording to be quite enjoyable, and yes, beautiful.
Great Gift Feb 13, 2009 I gave this as a gift to a huge Radiohead fan and they loved it. It's a new and relaxing way to enjoy the songs you already know so well.

this has the depth you need... Feb 17, 2007 I don't believe you need to be ga-ga over Radiohead to enjoy this CD. This CD, it's all piano (w/o vocals) if you didn't already know that going in, will provide an even deeper appreciation of the textures & depth of the Radiohead catalog. Mr. O'Riley does takes some artistic liberties with the songs, albeit minor, but in so doing he unleashes the potential they all have. And this potential is truly staggering---some selections are nothing short of gorgeous.
Hold me to this: you WILL be floored by this CD. it's well worth the purchase.
