 Movie Awesome - DVD not Feb 10, 2010
I have been waiting to get my copy of "His Girl Friday" for sometime, and decided to treat myself. I put it in my DVD player, and the menu comes up...and it won't play. I try resetting, checked the DVD for smudges and there were some, carefully cleaned it, tried again, still wouldn't play. I tried it on my portable DVD player and it works fine, and on my older DVD player that I have in another room. Halfway through the movie, just about the part where the dialouge is getting fast and furious, the dialouge fades out and there is a crackling noise.
I love the movie, the barbs between Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant flying fast and furious, Ralph Bellamy just being a good guy and trying to give Hildy what he thinks she wants...Great Stuff! The reproduced DVD, not great.
Pay a little more for a better copy.

This is a Christmas gift no yet opened but I received it at the time I was told I would. I have always had good luck with all of my purchases

Great movie. Great price. Although on this copy of the DVD there is clicking background noise that isn't so great, but after a few minutes of watching the movie you don't notice it anymore.

One of my favorite old-time movies Nov 02, 2009
Hildegard "Hildy" Johnson (played by Rosalind Russell) is a hard-boiled reported for The Morning Post, but she is ready to hang it all up and marry Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy), an insurance agent who is about as stable as a brick wall and almost as exciting. But, Hildy's editor, Walter Burns (Cary Grant) does not want to see her go, and he is not above using trickery to keep her. Burns arranges to have Baldwin arrested over and over again, but if there is one thing that will keep Hildy on the job it is the lure of the big scoop. And when a man on death-row escapes and bumps into Hildy the big scoop is hers for the taking.
Even though this movie was released in 1940, it still has an interesting story, and the badinage between Grant and Russell makes the entire movie come alive. This is one of my favorite old-time movies, and it is easy to see how it made it onto the American Film Institute's list of top 100 comedy movies, 100 Years... 100 Laughs. If you like great badinage, then this movie is for you. I give it my highest recommendations!

I absolutely love this movie!!! Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell at their best!
The writing..... just everything about this movie is superb.
That said, the quality on this dvd is not the best but that might be due to this being a very old film.
