2000 sound Oct 10, 2009 The album has a couple nice tracks but doesnt remind me of the best of 2000 so it probably didnt impact the music scene at the time of its release. Tracks worth listenin to - Cheatin on me; Dont think I'm not;Cant come back-

3 1/2 stars. I like candy and I like Kandi! Apr 29, 2008 I feel so compelled to say one thing: Kandi has so much potential that it is not even funny. As you may know, she penned TLC's smash hit called "No Scrubs" as well as many other songs for Faith Evans, Pink, and Destiny's Child. She always sounded so fresh and vigilant on all of Xscape's music. Now, on her debut, "Hey Kandi", she really got a chance to shine. As far as vocals and delivery are concerned, Kandi did a splendid job on every single song. I am very impressed with her ability to stay on key and never give too much or too little vocally. She has a beautiful voice and she knows just how to use it. One can't help but wonder why she wasn't given more solos when she was apart of Xscape (her voice is even better than the lead singer, LaTocha Scott's.)
The title of her album is "Hey Kandi." It's simple, but very effective for whatever reason. What really drove me to purchase this album was the lead single, "Don't Think I'm Not." I absolutely love this song's subject matter which is, "If you cheat on me, I'll cheat on you and I will not feel bad about it." The production is great and so is Kandi's delivery. So, why did I begin my review by saying that she has potential? Well, there are a few missteps on this album, but her good material is very good. At her best, she's a very capable artist and I can listen to her music for hours on end, but, there are moments here where she apes others. For example, "What I'm Gon Do to You's" subject matter is exact to Blu Cantrell's song, "Hit `Em Up Style." These tracks are about damaging men's property because they mistreat you. The song is just average; Cantrell's song is better. Further, "I Wanna Know" and "I Won't Bite My Tongue", as far as production and melody are concerned, sound like they could have been on Pink's debut, "Can't Take Me Home." "Easier" features the very talented Faith Evans. This ballad is beautiful; Kandi dedicated the song to her late brother and it is very touching. Kandi speaks at length about cheating throughout this album and it makes the listener wonder just how many men have done her wrong. I wish there was more subject matter on this album, but I can get over it.
Good R&B is found on "Hey Kandi." She does a good job overall and those who enjoy ballads and up-beats should enjoy this album, even if only partially.
