Step To The Name Of The Lord Jan 18, 2010 With the release of Chocolate Factory R Kelly made huge strides forward by throwing out well produced funk and R&B tracks that worked well for both lovers the music's classic flavors and hip-hop as well. On the first part of this album he takes a huge leap forward by presenting not a double album but two seperate albums packaged together much in the same manner as OutKasts Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below: only difference R did them both and both couldn't be any more different. The first album is called 'Happy People' and it presents the ideal extension of what it was following up. This is full on funk/disco we're dealing with here-there's no foul mouthed,flavor-of-the-month guest rappers and the hip-hop connection comes from the DJ influence. Either way "Love Street","The Greatest Show On Earth" and "If I Could Make The World Dance" really keep the step-funk groove indicated strongly on the previous release alive and well. "Ladies Night (Treat Her Like Heaven" throws a slow number into the mix and it comes from the same idea: kind of a disco/funk ballad of the modern age. A couple key songs are in the same place but actually do some unique things of their own too."If" extends on the Stevie Wonder/Smokey Robinson style of wordplay in the lyrics and "Happy People" perfectly deals in a midtempo kind of jam that expresses the spiritual and seculuar concern for humanity down to a tee and is instantly relatable. This is one reason why I find the second album 'U Saved Me' so confusing. I have nothing at all negative to say regarding R Kelly's apparent religious beliefs. After all it's coming from not only his connection to the age old spiritual/secular bridge in R&B but the same place that (partly) got the black community in particular to where they are now. At the same time here we have R Kelly,in a cultural environment where everyone is insisting every belief system is wrong except their own is coming in doing slow crawling tunes such as "3-Way Phone Call",the title song,"Prayer Changes" and especially "I Surrender". To a practicing Christian these intense, very preachy songs are probably just up your ally. But in terms of being convincing to other people they will likely serve as alienating. A lot of that comes from the presentation of Jesus alone as a savior for all the misfortunes R discusses here and the concept of surrendering will. To those dead set against Christian beliefs, and despite everything I cannot say I am one of those people......even I have to say these may in fact turn mere non believers into plain haters with the one sided preachiness. The final cut "Peace",with it's tribal African percussion flavor is the best musically of the lot but still doesn't improve on the grooves and messages of the first album in this set. Wheras on that first set he's bringing EVERYONE together with great grooves and a positive message the second one not only has a very target listener in mind but is....definately not for everyone. As a document of the duel side of his nature as well as many of the ironies that apply from this to his personal life of the day this stands as one of his strongest albums musically even with it's surprising flaw.
R-Kelly Gospel CD Oct 15, 2009 I love this CD. My first one got broke and I had to replace it.
alrighty then Jul 30, 2008 i like this album, but i'm not crazy about it. the first cd, all the songs sound the same from the beat to what he's singing about. the second cd, is alright, but it could've been better.

Gospel Album - R. Kelly is a HYPOCRITE with no integrity Jul 10, 2008 If you think R. Kelly has released a gospel album because he has been "saved" think again. Just check out the tracks from the follow up to this album to see the true R. Kelly. His album after this "TP3. Reloaded" features tracks with titles that include "Playa's Only", "Sex In The Kitchen", "Girls Go Crazy", "Hit It Till Morning", "Sex Weed". The man is a SLEAZE. He has released a gospel album because there's money in it, not because he believes in it, as his follow up album confirmed. I might be convinced that he was genuine on this gospel CD if he donated a portion of the profits to victims of paedophiles/sex crimes, but I'm sure that his way of apologising is faking a gospel CD & making a fat lot of money in the process. I mean how old was Aaliyah when they were first an (alleged)item. Finally a question for Mr Kelly : COULD THE REAL R. KELLY STAND UP? Actually I think I'd rather he didn't.

You Saved Me May 15, 2007 R. Kelly really put his heart and soul with this one. I listen to this CD everyday because it reminds me of how faithful God is and whatever I am going through he is protecting me from evil. Thanks R. Kelly for allowing God to use you in such a powerful way.
