Description:

HIStory's 2 CDs (one hits, the other new) were Jackson's attempt to connect his glorious past to a dodgy present and--given it's commercial and artistic performance--cast a shadow on his future. Conceived as his formal coronation as the "King of Pop," HIStory's second disc instead presents Jackson as an epauletted, single-gloved Richard III. By turns paranoid, angry, bitter, sentimental, and, in one instance, possibly anti-Semitic, HIStory was less a collection of songs than a case history. A few tracks--mostly those produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis--are sleek, modern pop/soul, but too much of HIStory has the overblown vacuousness of a musician who knows his time is past, but is unsure as to how to react to the situation. --Steven Mirkin

5HIStory in the making!  Nov 18, 2009
this is MJ's most angriest album ever! people from all walks of life kept getting on his back. the media and the people who had accused him of molestation. this was his own way of saying "F OFF"!!!!!! he loosen up his goody two shoe image and show off his other side to him. the album cover is iconic and shows a perfect allusion to what a great legend he was. if you're a fan of MJ, get this album!

Scream-this song is epic!!! it made 1995 a very memorable year. i love the video!!! seeing him and janet together was just pure awesomeness!!!!!! it's my all time favorite music videoes!!!! 5/5

They Don't Care About Us-this beat is dope. i love the lyrics. it talks about the unfair treatment of minorities. 5/5

Stranger in Moscow-i can very much relate to this song. i know what it feels like to be lonely. it really does hurt. 5/5

This Time Around-cool, easygoing beat. the rap part by biggie was cool too. 4.5/5

Earth Song-why can't people these days make songs like these. mike is one of the few that cares about nature and animals. when you listen to this song, it shows how unique he really was. everytime he performed this song, you could see the holy presence around him. 5/5

D.S.-mike was wildin out when he made this song and the fact he turned it into a rock and blues song. it's just purely classic!!!! "tom sneddon is a cold man...tom sneddon is a cold man, now" 5/5

Money-the lyrics are funny. i love his voice. "you sell your soul to the devil". 5/5

Come Together-he did an excellent job on this beatles cover!!! this was from the moonwalker movie. he looked hot in that performance btw!!! 5/5

You Are Not Alone-this is one of MJ's signature songs and his last #1 song. michael reassures us that we are not "alone". the video was also epic as well. he appears almost naked with his ex. this is the first time we see so comfortable in his own skin. 5/5

Childhood-this song made me cry when i was little and after all these years it STILL does!!! it's so depressing. i don't like to listen to it all the time. 5/5

Tabloid Junkie-michael is encouraging people not to believe everything you read or see on tv. it doesn't make it "factual", "actual" the most memorable lines of the song would be "they say he's homosexual" or "you're so dam n disrespectful". lol the part where he hear people's voice all at one time was pretty funny. 5/5

2 Bad-the beats are slammin. it makes me want to bust a move. the shaq part was okay. "2 bad 2 bad about it, why don't you scream and shout it" 5/5

HIStory-this is a nice song. it plays historical events with quotes. 5/5

Little Susie-Disney should have hook up with Michael. he would have made a wonderful storyteller. 5/5

Smile-a tribute to charlie chaplin. he's telling us to smile no matter what you're going through. 5/5

3Much 2 much.  Nov 10, 2009
Disc 1 "HIStory Begins": These tracks are the reason Michael was once known as the "King of Pop."
Disc 2 "HIStory Continues": Contains some of the most eccentric pop music ever recorded. Not just because the performer is weirder than Howard Hughes or Charles Foster Kane combined, but because the tracks range from excellent urban soul to appallingly bad rock to treacly ballads syrupy enough for a Disney feature. In addition, Michael's paranoia, anger, and frustration come through on virtually every track, from the otherwise excellent 'Tabloid Junkie' to the really, really, really bad "D.S." His cover of Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile' definitely prepares him for a Vegas lounge act, and his cover of 'Come Together' is proof that the Beatles catalogue is in the wrong hands. The unevenness of "HIStory Continues", and its combined packaging with a collection of Michael's truly exceptional hits, make it virtually irrevelant, although it is Michael's most personal statement. There is such a thing as over-sharing, however.
