A great collection of songs Oct 24, 2009 This is a great cd set , comes in a very nice case, and the songs are all great.I am very glad I bought it.
Making History Oct 21, 2009 The price on this 2-CD set seems high, and I do not understand the reason for the pricing strategy. The word is his ex-wife from his first marriage gets 10% of the royalties on this product, but that is not a good reason for its price. Following Mr. Jackson's death, there was some indication that the price on this set might increase so after listening to samples of the songs I do not have, I purchased it in anticipation of a price increase. As it turns out I could have waited to purchase a quality used set if I waited.
The only five songs that are new to me out of its 30 tracks are: D.S., Come Together, Tabloid Junkie, Little Susie and Smile. The first three songs are funky and complement the artists' singing style, "Little Susie" parallels the circumstances of Mr. Jackson's life and death, and "Smile" has a melancholy mood similar to how his life is described in print and it is also sad like "Gone Too Soon". Since I have the DVD for History on Film Volume 2, I already had exposure to "Childhood" and "They Don't Care About Us" as well as "Scream", "Stranger in Moscow" and "You Are Not Alone".
Nine of the songs on Disc 2 are the original (non-remix) versions of what appears on the Blood on the Dance Floor: History In The Mix album: Scream, Money, 2 Bad, Stranger in Moscow, This Time Around, Earth Song, You Are Not Alone, and History. This is a reason to purchase the set even if you already have the remixes.
Assuming Michael Jackson selected the songs for Disc 1 (History Begins) and Disc 2 (History Continues), makes History: Past, Present and Future Book I a statement about the history of his music and the development of his style. I hope it is not just about marketing; "it's about making history" as he has said.
The past, present and future since Michael Oct 18, 2009
I bought the vinyl version. Three discs that tell an exciting solo career full of great successes. The past is rich and overwhelming, with hits taken from the album: "Off the Wall", "Thriller," "Bad" and "Dangerous." The present and the future that are read with music arranged by Jackson with electronic sounds and overwhelming rhythm, interrupting the vortex of pop music with slow and reflective ballads. An album that embodies the creative capacity of the "King of Pop".
