disc 41 Jan 16, 2010 Certainly a great set for the money even if one already has most of them on LPs. Hard to believe the Amazon listing for one record alone which is in this set for $320 more than the cost of the whole set!
In my set the Slaughterhouse-five disc (41) does not include the last cut, the Bach Chorale (BMV 651). Do I just have a defective disc or are they all like that?
Unfortunately Sony's website does not allow for e-mail.

A feast for the ears! Apr 17, 2009 I bought this set about a year ago and can't stop playing it, but with 80 CDs, why would you want to? I came to Glenn Gould's music years ago, like many others, via the first version of the Goldbergs, but this magnificent collection opened my mind to his other marvelous interpretations. The Bach is there, of course, (all of it) and is undoubtedly the foundation of the recordings. But to hear Gould play Mozart, Beethoven, Hetu, Brahms, Sibelius, etc., is a tremendous musical feast. You probably won't like all of his nuances, since he considered the pianist to be co-composer (and certainly played as though that was the case). But the rest of the recordings, including his gorgeously sensitive versions of William Byrd and Orlando Gibbons, his 4 hands Wagner and a smorgasbord of other rare treats will leave the classical music fan breathless. This is a tremendous bargain that the Gould fan will treasure forever. And I'm actually beginning to like Schoenberg...

a bargain at any price Apr 16, 2009 This is a treasure trove. Impeccably presented, beautifully mastered, these are some of the most important performances on disc. There are the controversial performances (Mozart sonatas, late Beethoven), the triumphs (both Goldberg's, Bach pieces too numerous to mention, Beethoven 1 with Bernstein, etc. etc.), and the unexpected--who knew Gould's Brahms would be so stunning to hear?
Others have mentioned problems with disk 37. My copy had no issues, which is good since Gould's "Erioca Variations" are worth the price of the entire set.
If you are fascinated with Gould as I am, this is what you are looking for--it's a shame it's sold out at Amazon, but there are some still available from other sellers at sometimes insanely inflated prices. But keep looking. It's worth it. If you are new to Gould and want to know what all the fuss is about, perhaps you should do some sampling of individual discs before you make a committment. He's an acquired taste, but an artist unlike any other, and if you are serious about great pianism, he's always worth examining. Even his outlandish recordings have a level of polish and artistry that outshine many of the competing versions. If you ever wondered what temperament sounds like, look no further!
