My favorite album ever! Dec 31, 2009 This has to be one of my favorite albums ever. I love his raspy voice, the music, the tempo. Every song is amazing. I espcially love She Don't Have to Know and I Can Change.
Love the music, Legend's singing Dec 31, 2009 ...but.. it reminds me of a movie soundtrack of a cheater's life. I had this album on repeat, because I genuinely like the arrangements and Legend's singing -- but the more I listened to the lyrics -- the more I wanted to stop listening to the album. Sometimes, you'll get the urge to smack Legend, though he's only "playing" a part while singing the song. Hey, his album still on my IPOD..
...but, maybe it's a woman thing, no sista wants to think their man is out cheating on them when they're in a relationship. Every time I hear this album, it just has excuses and fake attempts to change. The album starts off with dissatisfaction with relationships/the motivation to cheat "Used to Love You," to the actual act of cheating during "She Don't Have to Know," and finally, begging the girl to stay with "I Can Change." "Ordinary People" is the acceptance that people in relationships are faulty, imperfect and human, and working toward repairing past transgressions. Theme-wise, the songs work....and Legend sounds great singing them, and I liked the album...
...but...hey...beautiful though it may be, it's still the same playa crap just dressed up to make it more palatable.
John Leged Sep 04, 2009 This CD is absolutely fantastic! Amazon sent it out within a few days and it took no time at all to arrive. I suggest if you have the CD and like it to get the Get Lifted concert DVD which is even better than the CD!

John Legend - Get Lifted Jul 28, 2009 This album is a masterpiece. And its so special because Get Lifted is easily one of the best "Soul" albums to come out in the last 20 years. John Legend is a very soulful dude, and he makes that very obvious on his debut album. Coming into Get Lifted, not to many people knew a whole lot about Mr. Legend except that he was an associate of the great Kanye West, and was featured on a lot of Kanyes earlier music. But soon after this album was released, John Legend turned into one of the most talented musicians of our time. Not only does he have one of the most unique and soulful voices ever, but he also plays the piano better than most music teachers and he produces a lot of his own stuff. But im warning you now, if you are expecting Get Lifted to be a typical 2000 and something R&B album, your mistaken, because this album is nothing like 90% of the other R&B albums getting released these days. I definitely wouldnt say John is a contemporary R&B artist or a Neo-soul, even though he dabbles in both sub genres occasionally. The best way to describe his music is soulful. But when i say "Soulful", i dont mean in a old and boring way. John Legend brings a new and fresh swagger to the Soul genre. Because while his music is extremely soulful, like on the touching retro soul track "Stay With You", he still is able to successfully incorporate hip hop into his music to give it that extra spice and keep his tracks from getting boring, like on the Kanye West produced cheaters anthem "Number One". And throughout the whole album, not once does he come off as a fake. No one else in the music industry could have pulled off the breath taking ballad "Ordinary People", and no one could have sang it as wonderful as he did either. And he has a couple of Grammys now to show off after this stunning modern day classic, and he owes alot of that to "Ordinary People", because that was the song that launched his career in the direction its heading now. No one in this world knew just how big that single was, until it was all over the radio gaining John Legend alot of much deserved publicity and recognition. This album is a front to back banger, its one of those extremely rare albums that you can put in and listen to without skipping a single track. From the banging mid tempo "Used to Love U", to the mellow "She Don't Have to Know", this album is a classic. The sugary sweet ballad about falling deeply in love "Refuge" is another phenomenal track that shows his true soulfulness. And on "It Don't Have to Change", i can already picture this song being sung at family bar b ques and reunions all over the nation with its rumbling church soul vibe lol. Get Lifted already truly made John Legend a superstar, and a sure fire R&B hall of famer in the future... i already can't wait for the next album!
