perefct blend of ballad infused rock Feb 02, 2010 Perhaps one of the most underrated band in the world. The Danish band, Mew carefully crafts an album that blends shoe-gazing and arena rock to satiate the soft and hard side in all of us. Most of the songs are re-recordings of the songs from their previous album: Half the World is Watching Me. Frengers took the same songs and gave more punch where it needed to make songs like Am I wry? No realize its full potential. Any music nerd will appreciate their artistry.
no scratches Dec 09, 2009 CD and the case where perfect love this album, don't like the other so much
If You Believe That Life Has Beautiful Bitter-Sweet Moments... Nov 02, 2009 ... then you have found your soundtrack to it. This album rides that fine edge of being very original and different in it's sound, while holding true to the fundamentals of listenable music, such as strong melody lines, sweeping harmonies and well though-out chord progressions. It pushes the confort zone of song structures, often suddenly shifting gears mid-song, but not in an annoying 'yeah these guys are just trying to be different' kind of way. Instrument-wise, it's an enjoyable mixture of the rock basics (guitar, bass, drums, vocals) with some very tastefully employed synth sounds (that doesn't smack of the 80's), along with guest appeqarances by strings, a trumpet now and again, and even a bassoon and harp. I sort of think of Mew as being to the art rock scene what Sufjan Stevens is to the folk rock scene; a refreshing taste of something new and different, without diverging too far from what makes music so emotive and inspiring. One of my all-time favourite albums.
Sounds great Aug 26, 2009 This is as good as And the Glass Handed Kites album. Overall, it's lush and robust with delicacies such as "Symmetry" and "Her Voice Is Beyond Her Years." Once it gets going, "SheSpider" shapes up as one of the best tracks, along with "Comforting Sounds." But they're all comforting sounds, indeed.
stunner! Mar 12, 2009 Every time I listen to this amazing album I am transformed. I suggest you just buy it now and thank me later. Excellent musicians.
