BETTER THAN AFTERGLOW Dec 31, 2009 ELO's best boxset. All the previously released tracks have been improved with loving care in the remastering process, Jeff Lynne has been heavily involved. Also, the 'new' tracks like Xanadu (sung by Jeff!!). Tears In Your Life, Helpless, etc are absolutely fantastic. This isn't just a must buy for diehard ELO fans but for anyone that enjoys the ELO type of sound.
Flashback almost enough! Jun 28, 2008 I discovered this Flashback of ELO by accident, and it is brilliant! - A stunning box set collection - almost - my only negative comment is on what was left off, as a long time fan, I feel that 2 tracks from 'On The Third Day' album 1. "Dreaming of 4000" and 2. "In the Hall of the Mountain King", should have been included on disc 1, they are both fantastic early examples of ELO's musical difference, and personally, I would also include "Midnight Blue" and "I Need Her Love" from 'Discovery' and "All over the World" from 'Xanadu' on disc's 2 or 3 showcasing ELO's later work, finally, although "Wild West Hero" was my least personal liked ELO song, it again is strange that it is not included on the Flashback compilation. Really though, the craftmanship, musical tallent and brilliance shown by this wonderful band puts todays Karaoke so called singing artists to shame, if you are a long time fan take the time to reconnect with ELO or a new listener wanting to delve into the combined works of one of the best ever studio rock bands then, add Flashback to your collection, you won't be disapointed!
Great Box Set, but get 'em all Jan 22, 2008 I entered 2007, having not been in touch with the details revolving around the ELO/Jeff Lynne remastering campaign.
Well, here I thought I'd gotten the creme-de-la-creme of Jeff Lynne's output by having this box set, "Flashback". It gave me more than a single disc of "greatest hits" by giving me 3 DISCS of songs and a couple of unreleased gems like his version of Xanadu, complete with his singing the lead! After all, after scoring his first #1 single with Olivia's vocal, he wrote it and produced it, so why not sing it and include it here?!?!
"Flashback" turned out to be the vehicle that focused my attention on a whole lot more than I bargained for: namely, the "qwest" to obtain the entire batch of newly/recently remastered ELO recordings. I came to find out that the master architect of the Electic Light Orchestra had been re-releasing albums like "El Dorado", "Time", "ELO II", and "Face The Music" since 2001. Where had I been?
I already had 3 "old" CD's of the band, but "Flashback" just sizzled with a fresh, new, hot sound that the old discs lacked. And on the back of the box there was a link to a website that basically gave me the roadmap to what was to become a real investment for the year - locating and buying all 11 single ELO remastered discs. It was the fan-site http://www.eskimo.com/~noanswer/showdown.html where I connected to the folks who were putting all this out on the street.
WHOA, like a juggernaut this search took me from getting bonus items off the ELO website with purchases there, to Best Buy, then Barnes and Noble, to Circuit City, and finally to Amazon.com in my ultimate conquest of "The Catalogue".
My only question now: Is there a "brick box" as I have seen at other sites that exists, beyond the long box that is for sale? Anyone know?
FLASHBACK: What A Trip! Jan 17, 2008 Even a casual listener of radio over the past thirty years will recognize music and melodies from this excellent collection of ELO recordings. And for a fan, this collection is the ultimate ELO experience. Purchase this with the ZOOM CD and you'll have as great a collection of the best of ELO as is currently available. FLASHBACK's selections are personally chosen by Jeff Lyne and represent the history of the everchanging ELO experience. The booklet that accompanies the three disc set is filled with photos and text that compliments the selections. This collection represents the ultimate ELO Flashback...and what a trip!

They Almost Got It Jun 17, 2007 How can you release an ELO box set and not include "Fire On High"? They did not include it on the 1990 Afterglow box set, either. An outrage!
