Energetic and joyful Nov 16, 2009 Had to get this album after seeing Gustavo Dudamel performing with Young People's Orchestra of Venezuela. The energy and joy that they all exhibited when performing and his intense and almost frenetic conducting really make you wish you were there in person. Enjoyed putting it on 'repeat' and turning up the volume.

Pop goes Classics Oct 27, 2009
Dudamel is not a great musician, yet. He has more of a rock star
than a real academic artist. For the time being Fiesta is a good CD
and it includes the perfect repertoire for Dudamel...light classics.
Good recommendation for beginners.

The unsinkable Gustavo Dudamel! Oct 08, 2009 Whether these selections of Latin American music or the magically exciting performance of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story Mambo are to your liking, there is no denying that Gustavo Dudamel understands the scores he conducts and is able to make them come alive. Yes, there is considerable hype surrounding this young magician of a conductor, but spend some time with this recording or better yet attend a concert that he conducts and you will be astonished at just how musical he is.
While the various podiums he occupies are before orchestra playing the classical repertoire, the fact that Dudamel would have the energy and foresight to place this recording before the public at the time when he is opening his first season as the conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic is yet another feather in his cap, a hat he happily wears before the youth orchestras of the world. He is a dynamic force of nature and watching his rise in the world of the great conductors will be a pleasure. Meanwhile, for sheer pleasure and excitement, join the throngs who have caught the fever so evident in this very fine recording with his own youth orchestra in Venezuela. Grady Harp, October 09

BRAVO!!! Oct 03, 2009 I just watched this performance on Ovation TV, and was extremely impressed with the music selections and the quality of the performance. It was very invigorating and a real joy to watch. The sights and sounds grabbed my two-year old daughter, and she could not sit still nor take her eyes off the TV during the entire program. I recorded it so that I can watch it again, but I will definitely purchase the DVD for the improved sound quality with my Surround Sound System. I highly recommend this program!
