Wow! Dec 16, 2009 This is 1 of my all time favorites!
The songs are fabulous. I've had this for years and years and it never gets old.
G.M. might be a bit out there but he's all man in my book!
Excellent Exploratory Solo Debut Dec 13, 2009 One thing about this album is that it's so hard to pick a favorite song. George Michael really explores his talent and range and he never failed to surprise me. Putting "Kissing a Fool" on the same LP as "Faith", "I Want Your Sex" and "Monkey" is the mark of either a genius or a fool (Sorry, I had to do it!) and it's pretty clear that he was always the former. I love "Kissing a Fool" because his voice is so rich and passionate. "Monkey" and "Hand to Mouth" are favorites of mine because I like unique material and I found those lyrics to be outside the norm for that time.
The thing about George is that he is so honest and searching in his work and a lot of people can't appreciate it either because it reminds them of something inside themselves that they want to keep buried or because they can't bear clear honesty, like "I Want Your Sex". It was a pity that he got so much flak for that song alone, and a tragedy when you consider the kind of porn that they now call pop music. But the bottom line is that this music is timeless and I love it as much now as I did when it was new.
Top Five album of the 80's Sep 28, 2009 One of the best things about "Faith" is how surprisingly well it holds up today. If I'm a producer I'm getting someone like Justin Timberlake in the studio today to do a cover of "Hard day". Not that Timberlake can hold a candle to Michael vocally, musically, or in any talent capacity, but that song would be a hit for him today if he did it, no question. This album to me is very underappreciated by history. It's easily one of the best from the 80's and to me one of the best pop albums of all time. I was 11 when this came out and I love it as much today as I did then. It doesn't get the credit it deserves as an outstanding achievement in pop music.
Faith-Classic Pop Album of all times Feb 03, 2009 Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3PKM0JR9EQON7 From the opening synth parts playing Freedom from the Make It Big Album and then to the guitar based Faith, I Want Your Sex, Monkey, Father Figure, Kissing A Fool, One More Try and Faith. How many hits can you have on one album? This album will go down as one of the best pop albums of all time. You can fast dance slow dance sing along this album has it all. I never tire of this album. This is George Michael at his best. In these tough economic times this album is recession proof. Its a sure thing! Every music collection has to have Faith by George Michael!
Surprisingly awesome after all these years.... Jul 16, 2008 There have been many times I wanted to get rid of this CD/album, but I never did. I decided to investigate why I didn't get rid of this by breaking out the album again after a long time, and found out I think it's a brilliant album. It's from the late 80's, but it doesn't feel like it. You can still listen to it today and be impressed with the great pop hooks, the good (and sometimes great) lyrics, and the overall production values of it.
The title track is really fun. It's a signature song by Michael, and it's still great. Father Figure is still a brilliant song, with Michael's vocals really cut through you. It's an incredibly powerful song, one of the best he ever recorded, and arguably my favorite of his work. Monkey is an underrated gem here, with another powerful vocal by Michael. It's got a powerful vibe like Father Figure. I Want Your Sex is still quite listenable and it's funny to listen to the song now considering the furor that it caused back in its day. The PMRC, Tipper Gore's old outfit that was going to "clean" up America by getting rid of smutty pop songs like Sex (and others of its ilk), was freaking out over the song. Listening to it and comparing to the vile garbage on TV and rap music, I Want Your Sex is actually a pretty well constructed song and is still cool to listen to. It is also good to note that there isn't any profanity in the song at all. The only "evil" word is SEX.
It's a shame that Michael is known for his tabloid exploits more than his music, as this album showcases his real talent. He's only made a handful of albums after this, but I hope someday he'll return to a real, full time solo career, and not hang out in public lavatories where paparazzi camp out.
