A Must Have for Any Metal Rock Fan Feb 02, 2010 Facelift was Alice in Chains first release and possibly their best and it was the album that took "grunge" to the mainstream. They were grouped with rocker friends Nirvana and Pearl Jam -- the other favorites of the Seattle scene. The single "Man in the Box" had a great groove to it with it's driving crunchy guitars and singer Layne Staley's interesting distinctive vocals. It probably is the song most recognized by people. Staley sings so clear that you can hear every painful lyric, unlike many alternative/metal songs.
Other great songs on the album are "Sea of Sorrow" having the same singable lyrics and great guitar notes along with "Bleed the Freak", because it's slightly different than the two previously mentioned. Their songs are moody, angry and emotional in a slight commercial way. A must have for any metal/rock fan.
ALICE'S FIRST ONE Dec 11, 2009 The often overlooked "Facelift" marks the starting point from which Alice in Chains staked a claim in the Seattle scene. Tracks like "We die young" and "Man in the box" instantly grab the attention, whilst other tracks such as "Love, Hate, Love" approach from a slower, more subtle angle but still leave the listener in awe of the haunting but powerful vocals of Layne Staley. Definately a more instantly accessable album than their second album "Dirt", "Facelift"'s slam-bang rock style smacks of late eighties rock, but without the cheesey cliches and an added edginess with a raw sound. Classic stuff from an awesome band, and that's without even going into the classic "Dirt" album !!!
good as remembered Oct 31, 2009 first A.I.C. cd ever owned and is as good as i remember. quick shipping as well. thanks
Powerhouse album. May 01, 2009 Great heavy album from a truly innovative and now returned band. This album was breath of fresh air, it was different from anything else at the time and in retrospect still is very unique. Truly awesome!
At the crossroads of something better Dec 31, 2008 The reason this album has gathered far more dirt then its sucessor is simple. Despite an impressive array of melodic, forboding metal, this new path was still in the midst of being forged while helplessly shrugging off a previous decade worth of snot-rock that nonetheless comes through.
