Description:

T-Pain opens the liner notes to his hotly anticipated second disc with a couple of helpful definitions: An epiphany is "the manifestation of a supernatural being" (definition No. 1) or "a sudden moment of insight or revelation" (No. 2), the opening page puts forth. Because most of the R&B record-buying world knows that T-Pain is not a supernatural being, but a stylish and inventive singer from Tallahassee, it would seem the second definition inspired the title--T-Pain probably felt flashes of inspiration when laying out the lyrics. A single spin ought to convince listeners a little of both factored in, though: Songs like "Bartender" and "Buy U a Drank" send out a southern hip-hop vibe silky enough to be considered a revelation (thanks partially to Akon, who pitches in on "Bartender"). And because the entire album leans hard on the vocoder, tracks such as opener "Tallahassee Love," a nod to Tupac's "California Love," sound otherworldly, a la definition one. Throughout, T-Pain hands out hooks like there's been a two-for-one sale. Maybe they came to him in a series of epiphanies. Or maybe a benevolent R&B being--some supernatural force who knows how to make a hit record--whispered them in his ear. --Tammy La Gorce

4It'z good give him credit  Dec 14, 2009
I personally liked the album. He had a song which he sang without the auto-tune which was called Right Hand and I thought he did a good job on the song and it proves he can really sing. Top 5 tracks Right Hand, Tipsy, Bar Tender, Buy U A Drank and Backseat Action

1T-Pain's "Epiphany" missed its mark  Dec 13, 2009
The first time I heard, T-Pain's "I'm in Love with a Stripper", I must admit that I was drawn to the song which surprised me. While the lyrics weren't relatable in my world, I think his use of a vocoder (first introduced by Zapp & Roger) reintroduced a sound that I favored from long ago. That being said, I figured I would listen to him only in the confines of my car or club. However, by the time his second album (Epiphany) was released, some really good advertisers convinced me to purchase it.

After listening to the album a couple of times, I knew that my purchase was in vain and pointless. The only songs I may play from time to time are: Bartender, Put it Down, and Buy U a Drank. After this hard-learned lesson, T-Pain will remain a radio/club artist in my book.

1This is the "Type" of hip-hop that is destroying it  Aug 04, 2008
T-Pain. This is exactly the type of hip-hop that making what was once a creative and fun genere, into a lousy and laughable mess. There is nothing creative at all about this artist, and he sounds no different then the any of other rappers from the south. First off, Southern hip-hop is not for everyone, as it does have a bit more of a unique sound, but the problem with it is that most of the artist have such a simlilar delivery that makes it hard to figure out a whos who. The huge problem that I have with T-Pain is when he mixes in his so-called slow jams, which is the biggest, heaping pile of doggie doo that I have ever heard since New Kids on the Block. I give the boy bands of the 80's and 90's more credit though. They might not have wrote their own songs, and the lyrics were beyond cheesy, but T-Pain takes the cake of the most talentless and revolting off them all. First off, how much talent does it take to run your voice through a synth box or whatever other effects he is using? I mean every slow jam, the same effect, the same tone, sounds just like the teacher in Charlie Brown. Wah, Wahhh, Wahhwaaa.. Even in metal, espcially death metal, at least the singers/screamers create their grunts and groans naturally without effects. The use their stomachs to create the growls, and their throats for some of the higher end shrills, but almost all dont use voice EQ's or electric harmoniziers. Every single slow jam sounds exactly the same way and it is revolting. It makes me cringe that this guy is all over the airwaves of hip-hop stations (the only reason I even turn on the hip-hop station is to listen to the old school shows that they run, but tune in 15min early or listen to the radio, and somewhere this wind bag will be on the dial, making my ears bleed. Please, why in gods name did this bag of wind get signed? I am sure that others will argue with me and say well why listen to it if you dont like hip-hop.( from judging my reviews, you see metal as my favorite) I do like hip-hop, and I am always trying to find some more modern artist that are good(Common, Kayne West as two of the better modern hip-hop artist). Its very difficult, as there are only a handful, as hip-hop gets ruined by this. And No, thank God I didnt buy this, but I heard it through downloads just to see if it was really that bad, and it is. Hopefully this junk will stop getting record-deals, and making room for artist that actually have talent. Jive records, one of the older hip-hop labels that once had the recordings of A tribe Called Quest, Spice 1, and Too Short, should hang its head in shame.

5I Love this CD!!!  Jun 25, 2008
Maybe I'm a little bias but T-Pain is what's really hot right now!Yeah we all know that he uses the vocoder but lets admit it, we still love it!And nobody else could have pulled it off like he did!And even in the songs that he dosent use the vocoder it STILL sounds good! Also he was a rapper before he was a singer, so I give him credit for doing something different and taking a chance.Keep up the good work nappy boy!HOLLA!!!!
