Great Singing Nov 04, 2008 Very good album featuring great singing by Elvis Presley. The songs vary from rock to country to pop and are all very catchy. Lots of great musicians worked on this album, including Elvis himself. His song-writing credit on "Love me Tender" is debatable, but he did change "Don't Be Cruel" and "Paralyzed" so much from how they were written that he deserved song-writing credit. Song-writer or not, Elvis was a great singer and arrenger who changed music forever. He didn't "steal" black music, a quick listen of this album and any other album of 1956 shows that Elvis was doing something new and exciting, unlike what had been done before. Sounds quality is fantastic and the price is great.

Too Much Mar 07, 2008 Elvis is the Alpha and the Omega of Rock & Roll, so what better place to start than this eponymously titled LP that says all that needs to be said. Too Much.

THE SECOND GREAT ONE Feb 21, 2008 This is the second Elvis'album which was a real RCA atudio album; the first album contains songs recorded at Sun studios, but in this cd all of the songs were recording on his first studio sessions at RCA studios, and it may be considered his first RCA album! What an excelelnt songs, from the precious ballads LOVE ME, ANYWAY YOU WANT ME, FIRST IN LINE and the unforgettable LOVE ME TENDER to his renditions to Rock'n'roll in RIP IT UP, READY TEDDY and SO GLAD YOU'RE MINE; this cd contains more number one songs like DON'T BE CRUEL, HOUND DOG and TOO MUCH and typical country & western ones like WHEN MY BLUE MOON TURNS TO GOLD AGAIN, HOW DO YOU THINK I FEEL and PARALYZED. VERY NICE ALBUM!!!!
Easily the best CD release of this celebrated album Jan 05, 2008 This album has been issued several times, but this time they get it right. Unlike past re-issues, this one is properly mastered (finally) from the correct master tapes, and they've restored the original album sequence, moving bonus cuts from the same sessions to the very end.
As for the original album itself, it's a bit overrated. Don't get me wrong, this is a fine album, especially by 1950s standards. It's certainly one of Elvis's better, more consistent albums, but it's still several notches below his RCA debut, "Elvis Presley," or latter day triumphs like "Elvis In Memphis." Except for 'Old Shep,' there's nothing bad about this album, but there's nothing that great either. For example, the three Little Richard covers are fine, but they're still tame interpretations. They don't come close to Little Richard's originals - in fact, Elvis's own live performances of "Long Tall Sally" were a lot more ferocious than the one presented here. Having said that, this CD really benefits from the bonus tracks, which include some classic singles like "Hound Dog" and "Love Me Tender."
If you're new to Elvis and want to buy some actual albums, I'd get his first album ("Elvis Presley") and "Elvis In Memphis" first. For longtime fans who are already set on buying this album, this CD is THE one to get.
Two Versions With This Original Cover Sep 03, 2007 The photo on the cover is the same one which appeared on his second RCA Victor LP 1382 in October 1956 and also on the CD version [PCD1-5199] of that album which was released a few years ago. That one, however, contained just the same twelve selections as appeared on the 1956 vinyl album.
As with the newer version of the album "Elvis Presley" tracks 1 to 3 and 16 to 18 in this expanded version are additions for this particular release.
This is happening more frequently with updated releases of older CD versions of vinyl albums [it also happened with a Sarah Vaughan and a Donovan CD] as, I suspect, today's consumers want to see something more than the 10- or 12-selection CDs that flooded the market in the earliest days of the new format.
However, I still like my 12-selection version with its original liner notes.
