5I can't believe they packed all this stuff on one disk  Dec 05, 2009
The main reason I bought this ELECTRIC EYE dvd is for the 1975 live performance of "Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver" on the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test TV show, which also includes "Rocka Rolla". The only album they had released at the time was ROCKA ROLLA, but SAD WINGS OF DESTINY was in the works and "Dreamer Deceiver" was a taste of things to come. Although the sound isn't the greatest it's priceless to see the Priest in this early pre-leather era. The band looks and sounds very Zeppelin-ish with Rob Halford looking like Robert Plant Jr. and K.K. Downing cloaked behind a large floppy white hat. But, hey, that was the hip look back then. I should point out that this live version of "Dreamer" is understandably abridged for the TV format, but they did a great job keeping the heart of the song intact.

What else is on this dvd?

> The PRIEST...LIVE! concert from the TURBO "Fuel for Life" tour, recorded in Dallas, June 1986.

THE SET LIST (19 songs): Out in the Cold, Locked In, Heading Out to the Highway, Breaking the Law, Love Bites, Some Heads are Gonna Roll, The Sentinel, Private Property, Desert Plains, Rock You All Around the World, Hellion/Electric Eye, Turbo Lover, Freewheel Burning, Green Manalishi, Parental Guidance, Living after Midnight, You've Got Another Thing Coming, Hell Bent for Leather and a partial version of Metal Gods plays over the credits.

I know many hardcore Priest fans look down on this specific concert because it's from the TURBO tour and therefore has too much poppy material from that cd, not to mention the band (supposedly) took on a more hair metal look; I've also heard the concert criticized as lackluster. For these reasons I stayed away from this performance all these years because I don't particularly like pop/hair metal. Well, I've seen the concert about 3 times now and I'm here to tell you that, despite the emphasis on poppy TURBO material, this concert is Judas Priest at the top of their game and commercial height, full of energy and pizzazz. No kidding.

Although devout fans tend to look down on TURBO it should be pointed out that the cd was a hit at the time, quickly going platinum, not to mention that the overtly commercial material attracted the babes in droves. Just check out the concert footage for verification -- it's full of gorgeous 80's quasi-metal chicks! In fact, this is one of the highlights of the concert. As for the performance being going-through-the-motions, no way; like I said, this is Priest ultra-confident, flawless and on overdrive. Play the last two tracks -- "You've Got Another Thing Coming" and "Hell Bent for Leather" -- and tell me any different. Besides, despite the presence of many TURBO tracks there are numerous mandatory Priest selections for hardcore devotees, like "The Sentinel," and a sped-up "Freewheel Burning".

As for their 'looks', aside from Downing's poodle hair & Aviator sunglasses and Tipton's slightly poofy hair, they all look fine. The costumes look great and aren't embarrassing at all (like Rob on the HELL BENT and RAM IT DOWN tours); just check out his cool trench jacket at the beginning. As for Halford's maligned 'mullet', it doesn't look like a traditional mullet because it's slicked back, besides it's nice to see Rob with hair at all!

> THIRTEEN VIDEOS from 1980-90: Living After Midnight, Breaking the Law, Don't Go, Heading Out to the Highway, Hot Rockin', You've got Another Thing Coming, Freewheel Burning, Love Bites, Locked In, Turbo Lover, Johnny B. Goode, Painkiller and A Touch of Evil.

I'm normally not into music videos but these are entertaining and amusing. The goofy skeleton character on "Locked In" and "Turbo Lover" is funny. Don't miss the blond with the ultra-cute butt chasing after a motorcycle wheel near the end of "Turbo Lover"!

> FOUR SONGS FROM TOP OF THE POPS 1979-80: Take On The World, Evening Star, Living After Midnight and United.

These "performances" are faked and lip-synched with the possible exception of "Take On The World," which looks like Rob's actually singing.

> FULL DISCOGRAPHY up till 2002 (all official studio, live and compilation albums).

The great thing about this feature is that a FULL SONG is played per each album, included some surprises like "Stained Class," "Killing Machine" and four great songs from the Ripper Owens era (!). The 19 songs played respective to each album, starting with ROCKA ROLLA, are: Diamonds and Rust (live), Victim of Changes (live), The Sinner, Stained Class, Killing Machine, The Ripper, Metal Gods, Heading Out to the Highway, Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith (live), Turbo Lover, Freewheel Burning (live), Ram it Down, Painkiller, You've Got Another Thing Coming, Jugulator, Bullet Train (live), Machine Man and Burn in Hell (live).

FINAL WORD: I can't believe they were able to jam all this stuff on one side of a disk. Needless to say, this is a mandatory dvd for any Priest fan. Seeing "Dreamer Deceiver" live is priceless. And don't pay attention to the whiners who write-off the PRIEST...LIVE concert; they're way off. This performance shows the band in totally dynamic form at the height of their popularity. In fact, this was the tour in which the popular short film "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" was shot (it's hilarious!). Not to mention there are numerous great songs featured on the Discography section, including four tracks from the Ripper era.

5"Electrifying DVD"  Sep 24, 2009
What you get is all the Priest Videos, that I'm aware of, plus the BBC performances, as well as the Priest Live Concert from the 80's, all on one DVD. Well the sound quality could be better, but overall it's a good DVD, and worth getting if you're a Priest fan.

5This might be the best thing ever...if you're a Priest fan  Jan 24, 2009
I started listening to Priest again after many years of not doing so, growing up in the early and mid-80's, I was as big a fan of them as any from Junior High School to about my Junior year.

I've longed to have all the old videos on DVD that I could watch any time, and never bothered to look into it, until I saw this for $13 and my eyes almost popped out when I saw the entire Priest...Live! concert was also on this. I loved that live album in the 80's and to have both that great concert and 13 videos is a great deal, despite video quality concerns, for the price.

The sound, at least, is in 5.1, but yes the video quality doesn't really look cleaned up or polished, but yet it is DVD quality and very passable, and will have to do, can't complain too much.

I can't WAIT to throw this on the Plasma TV and 5.1 system, throw down a few beers like old times, and annoy my girlfriend by rocking out with some old school Priest.

I'm not a huge fan of the Turbo album and anything beyond that, but there's enough pre-Turbo material on here to make it a must-have.

Thanks Priest, you are still the kings of old school Metal!
