Description:

This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched a nerve among both readers and reviewers. Elizabeth Gilbert tells how she made the difficult choice to leave behind all the trappings of modern American success (marriage, house in the country, career) and find, instead, what she truly wanted from life. Setting out for a year to study three different aspects of her nature amid three different cultures, Gilbert explored the art of pleasure in Italy and the art of devotion in India, and then a balance between the two on the Indonesian island of Bali. By turns rapturous and rueful, this wise and funny author (whom Booklist calls "Anne Lamott’s hip, yoga- practicing, footloose younger sister") is poised to garner yet more adoring fans.

4A 'Real' story.  Nov 18, 2009
This book confuses many males and empowers many woman to be themselves.
We cannot all be stereo types, even though sometimes the community we live in makes it clear that is what we are supposed to want.
This story is real to me in so many ways, but you have to read it with an open mind to get it...If you start thinking 'how selfish of her...or 'what a drama queen' during the first pages then this book is not for you and your mind is not open.

If you want to feel good about loving yourself for who you are and not for what you are supposed to be then you will love this book.

5Life Changing Book  Nov 18, 2009
This book has helped shape my life. Elizabeth constantly reminds me of myself, all the anxious, social, romantic, emotionalness that is her personality. I have been inspired by this book to take up meditation and to explore myself and my relationship with God more deeply.

Some people hate this book, which baffles me, but I feel sorry for them that they are unable to understand the spiritual beauty of it. Their hearts and minds are closed, and they do not want to be changes.

Read this book if you are open and want to become closer to yourself and to God. This story is not about travel and adventure, but about becoming a better person and growing close to God and our true selves.

4Great Book!  Nov 17, 2009
I received EAT PRAY LOVE very quickly after placing my order. The used copy wasn't perfect but in decent condition. The book itself is hard to put down and well worth what I paid!

4Loved it, however the ending could have been a little better...  Nov 16, 2009
First of all, "Eat, Pray, Love" is incredibly well written and read (I also heard the CD version). I love the story, how she describes her life before, and every experience she goes through. I love the lessons, the quotes (some of them I keep around now), the characters she meets and what they teach her. The book has made it into my top favorite books of all time. The only reason I give it 4 stars, is that while the parts "Eat" and "Pray" were absolutely amazing, her travels in Bali lacked discoveries. I was expecting her to describe a lot more, since she went to Bali to well...live with a wise man. Instead I guess she went full circle to find love again - which is nice for her, but it made the ending a bit dull.

So I highly recommend the book, especially the audio version because it's read by her (which makes the Italian parts sometimes really funny), she puts just as much passion into reading her story, as she did into writing it. However, do I think this book should be made into a movie (supposedly starring Julia Roberts)? NO. It's an eye-opening read if you know how to find the lessons, or even if you just want to live through someone for a little while. However, it is not enough of a story to make a movie about.

Still, I hope to have more books from her soon.

5Completely Life Changing!  Nov 12, 2009
It took me so long to read this book. Not because it was boring and I couldn't get into it, but because I wanted to take my time and not miss any of the hidden messages. I read a couple of chapters each night before bed and went to sleep with happy, inspirational, and motivational thoughts. I found that the solutions to some of her struggles, were also solutions to mine. I loved her journey and desire to take one of my own. What a life changing book. I must say I was sad when I finally did finish it.
