5A fresh-sounding follow-up. I love it!  Nov 19, 2009
I finally got the CD today and listened to it several times in order to get a feel for the songs, and I must say, so far, I love them! "Echo" has got a very fresh feel, and there are definitely differences between the songs on this album and those on "Spirit" in the sense that there are more unique sounds and a wider variety of genres. The production is great, and most importantly, as always, the vocals are outstanding! Breakdown:

1) Happy-Great first single with nice lyrics and arrangement. Definitely a hit.

2) I Got You-Upbeat, cheerful. Sounds like it can be the opening theme song for a TV show.

3) Love Letter-Another upbeat track with a sound similar to some of the songs released in the late 90's by other UK pop groups.

4) Can't Breathe-Nice tempo and R&B feel. Seems to be the favorite track of most listeners, based on other reviews I've read.

5) You Don't Care-This one stood out right away. I'm a huge Beatles fan, and certain parts reminded me of some of their songs (Strawberry Fields Forever, I Am a Walrus and Hey Jude).

6) Outta My Head-This is probably the most dance-oriented song that could work well in a club.

7) Brave-Another unique track with a Middle-Eastern feel and background instruments.

8) My Hands-Reminds me of Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone".

9) Alive-Good arrangement that gives the song more of a rock edge than some of the other tracks.

10) Don't Let Me Down- Another R&B track that could have easily fit in with some of the songs on "Spirit".

11) Fly Here Now-This is quite an 80's-sounding song.

12) Broken- A mellow, heart-felt song that's beautifully done. Starts out slow and builds up to the bridge and beyond.

13) Lost Then Found- The Ryan Tedder duet that has the sound that's recognizable on songs like "Halo".

*14) Naked- Bonus track available with pre-orders. Similar to "Love Letter"; very poppy and upbeat.

*15) Stop Crying Your Heart Out-This is an Oasis cover off the European edition of the CD that has the same feel as "Run", with great lyrics and vocals. It's worth getting this song if you can get a hold of it!

5An album brimming with emotion and breath-taking vocals...  Nov 18, 2009
To be honest, I was expecting this to be a repeat of her debut album, Spirit, but after the first listen, I was pleasantly surprised!

The songs are a lot stronger here. Her vocals are stronger and far more accomplished (which is no mean feat, considering her debut was vocally excellent), but more importantly, it's the emotion that floods out of her vocals that makes Leona a cut above the rest of the competition.

Another improvement over Spirit, is that the overall package, i.e. the songs, sound much more consistent, they belong together, rather than the scatter shot tracks on Spirit. Yes, even the euro-dance Outta My Head doesn't sound out of place.

Highlights: the aforementioned Outta My Head. I Got You, surely the strongest contender for single no.2, Brave: a middle-eastern tinged epic, Can't Breathe: A vocal masterclass. Stone Hearts (and hand grenades): The secret track that oozes with emotion. My Hands: A catchy ballad that has become the official song for Final Fantasy (for those of you who have an interest in video games!)

Overall, a brilliant album for those who appreciate fine vocals and emotionally charged songs. Highly recommended!!!

5A masterpiece and a true gem!  Nov 18, 2009
I am so proud of what Leona has accomplished with this album. I have been waiting too long for this Echo album to come out and it was worth it! I honestly don't find myself skipping songs unlike with Spirit. Every single tune sounds great! She really mixed it up this time with both ballads and midtempo/upbeat songs. Come on everyone - grab your copy now. There's no one else out there right now that can sing like Leona. She is a masterpiece and a true gem!

2Thing for teens  Nov 18, 2009
New Leona Lewis' album disappointed, almost every song tired my ears. Despite I really like Leona, I can't write nothing positive about "ECHO". This is very boring, insipid and imitative CD. I don't really know who advised her to stay in this sickness-ballad style, but it's terrible. How long will we listen about broken-hearted girl who cry in a pillow?

After this album, you could call Leona Lewis as a "princess of plastic pop for teenage girls in love with wrong guys". It's really sad cause she has an amazing voice and big musicality, but with such ridiculous image, her next album will be extremely sweet and you will have a stomachache for sure. Pity!

3An Amazing Voice Couldn't Save This Album!  Nov 18, 2009
An Amazing Voice Couldn't Save This Album

I am not sure if this album was rushed in anyway, but I found this album to be quite boring. I love ballads as much as the next person, but Leona doesn't really deliver on her second album. There seems to be something missing. I am not sure if it's explainable.

When her original album came out there was rave reviews about how Leona is the new Mariah and Whitney and Yes, she can SING! Her amazing vocals were showcased front and center on the amazing track that was "Bleeding Love". Written of course by the awesomely talented Ryan Tedder (Lead singer of OneRepublic). If you are looking for Bleeding Love part 2, this is not the album for you. If you are looking for the HIGH NOTES then this album is not for you. She doesnt do any HIGH NOTES on ECHO. Yes, her lead single HAPPY is once again written by Ryan, but Leona herself takes writing credits on the majority of her second album. After listening to the entire album i am not sure if this was a good idea.

HAPPY is a great lead off single, but besides the amazing chorus verse the rest of the song is just boring-ville. Even top notch music producer Max Martin (Baby One More Time, Oops! I did It Again, Lucky, Its Gonna Be Me, My life Would Suck Without You, etc) couldn't even save this album, which surprised me. He wrote Leona two songs on the album and they ended being dull tracks as well. She also works with Harvey Mason who is known for delivering R&B songs & the spirit of R&B is nowhere near being captured here. I found myself falling asleep after track six and only to be interested in Leona's last song when she does her duet with OneRepublic.

I didn't find ECHO to have any standout tracks. As mentioned, I like HAPPY (only the chorus) and I like her duet with OneRepublic. Other then that there isn't much on the album that I am head over heels in love with. The album just came off boring. Perhaps Leona is working with the wrong producers. I know I will get trashed by Leona fans for my review, but in all honesty, the album was just mediocre at best!
