I Wont Deny It, I'm a Strait Writer Sep 09, 2009 I'm not a huge fan of rap any more, it just sort of feels played out to me most of the time lately. With that being said though, Bone's E.1999 is really one of those rare album exceptions that I've had to keep in the collection ever since it was first released. Back then we were sure the world was going to end in 1999, and sure enough, it turns out we were correct in that assessment. The world may not have literally ended but it might as well have, while considering the esoteric implications of dates like 09/11/01, 07/07/07, and 09/09/09 earlier today it makes me wonder what is next in store on this chaotic cosmic chessboard we call Earth. This album captures the sort of darkness that one can expect during the times ahead and really in our immediate now, not just future. Read the article "Behind the Scenes in the Beltway by Al Martin" (found on WorldWideWar[dot]almartinraw[dot]com) to see what I mean. It's already happening but it is only going to be getting worse, and more widespread which brings to mind images like the cover of E.1999. Remember, real optimism means expecting the best, but being prepared for the worst. Keep your head up folks, it's going to be a rough ride but humanity has the cosmic power to endure these sorts of trials & tribulations, flipside I'm Ghost.
Perfection Aug 19, 2009 Welcome to the dark side...This is it ladies and gentleman; the greatest rap album of all time. This is Bone's masterpiece. E. 1999 Eternal was a gift and a curse for Bone. A gift in the sense that it was the greatest thing that they ever created and it sold tons of copies and made them huge superstars. A curse in that every subsequent album would be compared to this one albeit unfairly and never again would Bone achieve this level of success. Perhaps their magnum opus came too early in their careers. Nevertheless, E. 1999 Eternal is a legendary rap album.
What makes this album so good is that the Bone was completely on top of their game at the time. The cohesiveness and the harmonizing on the album really stand out as well. Each of the Bone member's flow is mind-blowing on this. This album sounded like nothing before it and nothing since. Eternal is probably one of the darkest rap albums ever made. In it, Bone paints hellish pictures of their every day lives in the darkest alleys of America's ghettos--more specifically the dark side of Cleveland. Murder, drugs, crime, poverty, these are the subjects that Bone chooses to address on this album. Rarely will you find an upbeat, happy moment on this album. Most of the time, it's grey and cold.
When I first purchased this album back in the mid-90s, I actually found it to be kind of scary. I was only in middle school at the time, and this album to me was so dark that it felt almost evil when compared to the other stuff I was listening to. E. 1999 Eternal totally sucked me in to it's nightmarish landscape though and I could not escape. For almost 2 years, this is the only album that really mattered to me. I played this every single day from the first track to the last and every lyric is still engrained into my mind.
In the years following, we saw the rise and fall of Bone. We saw multiple attempts at a come-back, some successful, some not. We saw their struggles with the record industry, and their internal struggles as a group as well. However, Bone has never given up. Even now Bone awaits their release of a new album, with all 5 of the original members. We have experienced some amazing releases by Bone, and some poor releases, but never again will Bone create E. 1999 Eternal. It is impossible. The reason it is impossible is because these 5 are no longer the hopeless, starving young thugs that they were back in 1995. Success changes people. If Bone were to put out an album like this now, it would not be believable. Thankfully they did create this masterpiece once upon a time. It is a timeless hip hop classic and an absolute must-own album. Eternal...Eternal....Eternal......
a MASTERPIECE May 16, 2009 a flawless album, ha, they don't make em like this no more! this album is cinematic and you can tell alot of thought when into this album. all the new rap is simple-minded jingles compare to this prestige and impeccable effort from bone. perfect.
Absolute Greatness May 16, 2009 Every single song on here is pure fire bone thugs is honestly the most undderated rap group but this album proves there the best out there mine and I think most everyones favorite song on here is tha crossroads (my favorite song ever) but songs like 1st of tha month. East 1999, Mo Murda, Buddah lovers, and really every song on here make it a CD you dont have to skip tracks on a must have for your rap collection.
BTNH's defining album that they cant top, and cant escape Nov 08, 2008 This masterwork came to the public as Bones first full-length CD which was propelled by their literally classic pro money-earning, death-obssessed intro EP ("Creepin'On Ah Come Up")...though E '99 Eternal needed little help, if any ...that ep set the stage for the takeover that ensued.
"Mo-Murda-and-weed-smoke" sums this CD up in the simplest of terms - nearly every song EVEN OUTSIDE the "marijuana odes", has multiple indo-weed references..and at this point so long later, EVEN AS A BURNER, becomes MONOTONOUS. They do, however, capture the tone of mid 90s reality/Gangsta Rap, while totally changing the landscape at the same time (so-called bone clones were of a plenty at this time--"Gangsta Pat"...you name it). I know lots of people have reviewed and heard this CD, but I will say, theres lots of highlights on here, of course...
crossroads
crept and we came
Mo murda
1st of the month
etc...
While I would honestly recommend "The At Of War" more, this here's no slouch... because of that, I think its clear those FOUR SINGLE-STAR RATINGS were, at some point, given by the 3 guys in "DO OR DIE" along with TWISTA. No able-eared listener (without personal beef) would give this less than four stars..EVER!!
