Oh get over it Aug 01, 2009 The critics panned this album, and maybe that's because they overhyped it when they released it. The marketing company billed this as the best thing since sex was invented, and while its good, its not as good as they tried to make it sound. Ever since then, people who get all sore over having rushed out to the record store to buy it before anybody elses did is still steaming over having plunked down $20 for the thing-and back then, that was alot of money. Still, its been almost 20 years now, so get over it.
The album itself is decent. I grew up listening to this album, and I liked it then and I like it now. It was my first introduction to Bob Dylan-I'd been a deadhead ever since I picked up a copy of Terrapin Station at the age of 12, and subsequently started sneaking off to shows whenever they came to play locally. It's not the best work they ever did, and its not the worst, either. I'd have liked it better if Bob had handed the mike over to the band and let Bobby or Jerry sing a few, maybe mix it up so it was half Dead tunes and half Dylan. Still, its good stuff-and it's worth the three or four bucks they'll charge ya if you buy it used.
Buyer beware! Tracks are mis-labeled! Jun 14, 2009 Regarding the Amazon MP3 files from this "Dylan & the Grateful Dead" album, two tracks have their labels mixed up: "All Along The Watchtower" is "Knocking On Heaven's Door", and vice-versa. I only discovered this problem after I had bought one thinking I had the other - then I had to buy the other one too to get the track I wanted. I would complain to Amazon but couldn't find a place to do that.

Easily the worst album in the Dylan canon May 26, 2009 It could have been a transcendent moment, but "Dylan and the Dead" is so bad that it defies description. I have been a die hard Dylan fan from the mid-70's, own all the official albums, a lot of unofficial albums and a lot of Bob's rarities. This is the absolute bottom of the barrel in terms of both performances and song choice. (I cannot think of a single reason why "Joey" should have been included--terrible song, terrible performance). This album is for completists only.

I needed a CD May 08, 2009 I have this on LP and wanted a CD to play in the car. I think the sound is good, and is more portable this way.

Not bad, but not great Apr 23, 2009 The remastering sounds really good on this. It's not compressed too much, and there's nice low end from Phil Lesh and the drummers. Jerry Garcia turns in some decent guitar solos, although the tempos rush and drag here and there. Not the poo-poo stick many claim this to be, but it's not fantastic, either. I'll reach more often for Dylan/The Band's "Before the Flood," which has quite a bit more punch and grit.
